Can we all put forth an effort to post stuff in the right section.
I know I was busting MOP's chops and Carl's but seriously:

With the surge in membership and info on the site searching for info is becoming a real task. Case in point the thread about the hornet z21 in the for sale section. I remembered the boat and tried to find the thread and info from years ago. type in a search to try and find it and you got to see the list that pops up

Hey I realize I probably have pissed in the sand box or maybe on occasion taken a dump too. I have been shown the error of my ways. It makes finding stuff much easier and in the long run the surfing expierence alot better. I know people think well it won't get looked at if I put it in it's correct section well maybe it in some cases that might be true and in some it is not. Then you have to think is it worth posting in the first place??

I also came to the conclusion this morning that the surge in membership as one big benefit . seems some new members are bringing something to the table with info or pics that are new to us. This has validated some of our discussions and in other cases disproved some theories and corrected theories that might have been off course a little.

Please I know some of you say well Matty you deleted all your posts/threads.
yes I did but do a search most of the **** i deleted was just that the real boating Donzi stuff is still there. I am also not saying that we need to just post tech info. I like hearing a funny story or a guess what happened to me story. I also like seeing what is happening with other members. Really no difference from reading the morning paper, news entertainment ,comics( let's not get carried away with the alien jokes ;) ) for sale ,financial market news.

what's the old saying there's a time and a place for everything and everything in it's place ??

thanks

and remember there is 2 T's in Mattyboy when you send the nasty PM's ;)

Another point, just regarding searching:

vBulletin, the software package that is dominant in the forum world and you see pretty much everywhere, has HORRIBLE search capabilities.

Google tends to be more powerful if used properly. In the z21 bowrider example: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=z21+bowrider+site%3Adonzi.net

(The let me google that for you site is kinda sarcastic, that isn't the point, just showing another method of searching)

hopefully that helps searching with a new 'tool' per say.

MOP, what does this thread have to do with the one you referenced? ....

First post, second paragraph...

I thought this place was for the free exchange of information and ideas among like minded individuals to benefit the Donzi community at large.

Why so many secrets? I really don't get it...

Frank
Is it winter again already???

Frank that was the board years ago, now we have some that want to make a quick buck and make a profit while taking advantage of the free exchange of information gathered by members and given freely. Back then it was done to help a fellow member now it has become a tool used to inflate and increase someone's bottom line.
so with all of the info posted here on tanks and other info the search button should do just fine.

don't get me wrong here i will help anyone in everyway I can , just drop me a line, and I'll call you on my dime and my time. but if you want help to make a dime on your time and my knowledge . sorry not gonna happen

But... if the information is freely available to all then the "seekers of the quick buck" loose any advantage they may have had, thus leveling the field.

I agree that most of what you need to know is already here and can be found with little effort. I also remember when I bought my boat I was terrified of what I didn't know. I had a good feeling about the seller and the boat and went with it. It worked out for the good for me.

When I needed a new gas tank I searched and searched and pleaded for detailed info before I spent the coin and ripped the boat apart. I knew others had done it before and a few tried to help but it was a secret that nobody who knew the facts would share. I had to work out myself. I did that and have since shared the info anyone who was interested. Nobody should have to go through that alone. Nobody...

I understand your position. Really, I do. I have been there in other situations and felt the same way. I do it every day. I just think that here, we are all better off if there are fewer secerts...

I see very little quick buck, we have only a few members that are advertising, and as far as I have seen all seem to get very good marks helping members out. Not a week passes where you don't see a "Thank You" posted somewhere, the board does not run on air it must have donations and some paid support. I have had several private conversations with folks that had services provided or items bought, no grumbling comes up it has been very positive. Some things don't come off as expected but do get rectified no one wants to be bad mouthed, this is one of the better boards around. Lets ALL try to get off our high horses and get back to basics and help each other out not beat each other down!

If I can just interject for a second ...
Furthermore , especially in the 'tech talk' section , nothing (well, almost nothing ) is more annoying than starting or seeing a potentially interesting thread develop where there is the potential for a huge amount of information to accumulate in one spot (easily found later in a search if titled correctly) get completley derailed when a simple off the wall remark that need not even be followed up on attracts all sort of comeback completley unrelated to the original subject.
What could be an informative discussion on a mechanical problem or boat goes off on a tangent about the Space Shuttle or mix masters or God knows what , pictures included .So far off tangent that no-one even knows or wants to get back to the original subject .
Result .. a ton of lost informative exchange !
And yes , it's beyond me how people who have been around for a good while , some with many thousands of posts ,
still can't seem to fathom what the appropriate section is for their thread .
And I wont make any excuses for newcomers who put mechanical questions under "Donzis for sale" and boats for sale under 'Ask Michael Aronow ..."

Some subjects can fit into more than one category. I posted my PIB adventure in Donzi Performance Talk because it was about my 160+ mile cruise in my boat. I guess it could also have gone into Whatever You Want To Talk About because it was also about PIB:confused:. A post about ACLU could also fit into WYWTTA or Politics:confused:. What's the big deal? An analogy: I'm a CD dealer and people will ask if I have a section for folk music or heavy metal or punk or goth etc. and I tell them that it is just too hard to break them down like that because of all the crossovers; Is John Denver pop or folk? Is Jimi Hendrix heavy metal or rock? It all goes into a section called "rock/pop".

Btw, I also have a problem with the "call me and I'll answer your question" replies that have been popping up.

seems like the feedback I get is that my info is not coherent or grammaticaly correct so I figured it would be easier for me to relay it to the person via a phone conversation. sorry for trying to help

One time, when I was worked up about something on here, and angry dog of french origin told me "relax, it is just a chat board". He was right.

Point is, when you start worrying about every rule and grammar and whatever instead of the actual post, then it ceases to be a fun place to visit and chat. It is just that, a chat board, not a court room. There is a wealth of info here and I have benefitted from a lot of it.

Mistakes will be made, posts put in the wrong place, and what is being said will be misconstrued. It is hard to relay how something is said by typing. I have seen many posts be misread due to that fact. Part of having 8000 different people on a chat board.

We have damn good maoderators to help put things in the right place, reel members in when the get out of line, and help make sure info is relayed correctly.

Lighten up, enjoy the board, and if you feel something is wrong, then shoot the author a PM or let the moderators know if you feel that strongly about it. The Honorable Judge Baxter and Honorable Judge VanAlstine do a fine job of holding court when necessary. I have had rulings handed to me by both judges when I was out of line and both were fair. I deserved it. No biggie, just move on.

Stuff happens........:)

I post here a lot. I talk to people I know here a lot. My call.

I will say a lot of the things that I am doing this time around to the Flowerpot came out of conversations with people I know in the community, not from reading and searching posts here.

I am investing time to document the work, to some extent, that is being done for the searchers later on. If somebody sees something in this thread a year or two down the road that peaks their interest, I would gladly take a call to discuss it.

Kind of goes with that friendship/clique thingy we like to talk about here, but the legend is broken, at least with me, because I talk to a lot of people here that I may not know that well, too.

I'm with DW, it's a "chat" board after all.

This is directed to everyone and not any person in particular.

When It all comes down to it this is a site that supports a hobby that is used for leisure time activities. NO STRESS. Unfortunately some folks thrive on stress and bring it here.

I don't charge folks to use the site. I added a few things to gently pursuade folks to make a contribution to help cover the time and money I am out for hosting, software, and long distance phone bill. I have also charged businesses for their advertising their businesses. This helps keep the commercialism from running rampant. Quick buck? There is no quick buck here. My wife has urged me to dump this site countless times when she sees me staying up consecutive nights trying save posting info from a computer glitch or flaw in the software. How about the times I almost lost past jobs trying to support site members during business hours. You guys don't see this side of the website.

Vbulletin. What can I say? It is not perfect But it is the best forum package out there. I work very hard to insure that all the info from past posts stays intact. This is not the prettiest site out there BUT it is by a long shot the oldest and is the largest repository of info on Donzi boats.

Everyone is free to say what ever they want as long as long as I determine that it is not abusive or an attack on me, the site, or any of the members. I have enlisted the help of others on the site to help me because sometimes there is just not enough of me to go around.

In conclusion. This site is a leisure time activity. If its stressful for you then you need to find another hobby or get counseling. Maybe I will see you there.:nilly:

Matty, it just dawned on me that what you're referring to might be one of my posts! If so, I apologize.

I've always been highly entertained by your comments and impressed by your knowledge. Your writing style is passionate and novel; of the 6+1 Traits of Writing you would score very high on what they term "Voice". That's not even mentioning the fact that about 2/3 of your posts are stinkin’ hilarious!

Regarding "Conventions" (format, punctuation, capitalization, etc.), who the fock cares? I read your posts and have no problems understanding them. Plus, if we were to have a "spelling police" oversight committee, you would not even make the Top Ten Most Wanted list!

Like a classroom, this board, or society - every individual possesses quirks and nuances in their personality. Again, who the fock cares? I can say without hesitation that every person I have ever met and spent any time with, at gatherings, has been completely outstanding.

I ditto you r comments 100% Matty and I spoke the other day, he is not asking for much! He is only looking to get the board back on track, put things where they belong and to calm our comments. We are here to learn & enjoy lets keep that fact in mind!
