How much work will be involved in swaping my 200 transom over to a 280 transom and drive. I really don't want to have to do any cutting of the hull or major mods to this boat

You should be able to just swap them out and mount to the same holes.

I swapped out a 200 for a 270 transom shield. A bit of very minor trimming was required. I'm not sure about the 280. If it looks the same it probably is. Be sure to seal up any cut edges.

The worst part is the mental barrier of "I don't really want to tear the whole bloody back end out of this boat" but since you already have the engine and drive out there isn't much left at that point.

The next worst part is all the "discoveries" that may occur...

270 and 280 are the same amount of work non issue.

Simple get a decent wood rasp for your drill and trim it in a couple of areas, then seal the newly exposed wood with resin or epoxy. Make sure the bottom lip is tilting down toward the bilge so it does not trap any water!

ok dremel time here I come I guess, it is just too hard to find parts for the 200 and I would like to use a 16 inch prop too

ok I know I want a 1.61 ratio but would a 1.89 work if I prop this a little more, I know the 2.15 is totally out

You might find some insight here (http://www.donzi.net/forums/showthread.php?t=58983).

If you can find a decent 1.61:1 for a good price grab it.

stick with the 1.61 if you can.
