im working on a old omc electric shift,what kind of fluid does the thang take?
Somone put atf in it:bonk:

...but I always used "Lubrimatic Lower Unit Gear Lube" in my electric shift outboards and sterndrives.

I will check the service manual when I get home...

Yeah, I believe it's APG 90 (hypoid 90) for mechanical shift and 80 for electric.

The 1968 OMC Stern Drive Service Manual says "Fill upper and lower gearcases with OMC Type C Lubricant." Gotta love the manual...

Ok thanx guys,,i picked some omc electric shift lube,i guss the thick stuff will hurt the drive...:)

I really need to read entire posts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But below is my wordy answer:pimp:

The electric shift stuff is a fair bit thinner so the clutch springs can grab, it is Premium Blend C. If you put 80/90 it will slip like crazy and blue the clutch springs if run to long, when I say to long about two miles!!!! See if your suppliers can get you the right stuff, it will save you from killing the guts!!!
