Came across a 22C 009 this afternoon while doing a little canal cruising. I noticed it had a rounded keel where I would've guessed the 22C would have a sharper keel. Just wondering if there's really much difference for a given hull or a given deadrise.

Only a few very early 16's and 18's had sharp keels. I bet Matty knows the date they changed.
Sharp keel boats w/full length inner strakes don't perform as well as round keel boats.
Rootsy did a fairly long explanation as to why...

Actually I have never seen a 16 with a sharp keel. I believe the sharp keels were the barrel back only. It also has some different quirks in turns which is why they stopped them according to some peoplw who worked at Donzi at the time.

The F14 we did also has a sharp keel and full length strakes as I imagine all F14's do as well as the runabout version of this hull.

I bow to Griz's intimate knowledge of 16's having almost no personal experience w/them.

there you guys go you have just answered the first question on the lake george donzi classic club 2009 trivia quiz

Donzi made 2 classics with a sharp keel

the barrelback 18 up until late 67 or early 68 ish approx the first 235 ish 18 hulls had the sharp keel they did make one barrelback with the rounded keel
the inner strakes are also full length( end all the way at the transom) on the sharp keel

and the baby 14 and f 14 had a sharp keel and i believe full length inner strakes

the sharp keel does cut the rough stuff but does have quirks that can make it harsh on re-entry the round keel does ride a little softer

It is a continuum from sharp v to rounded to pad bottom like a Velocity.
