650 feet  away !!! I would say my record (closest) would be about 15 feet from a 30' mammal here. This will kill the Industry I think. Viewing a whale from a distance that many people can't even see clearly, would be a hard sell.

What do you think ?

I am perplexed by the comments regarding their need to evaluate "the science behind this new recommendation." What science is there as it relates to looking at a whale in the water?

I didn't know (just like the tourists referred to in the article) that there were rules saying you had to stay a certain distance. I can see where it could cause trouble if boaters were trying to chase down animals for a better look. But if you are just floating around in a boat waiting to see some whales, you don't have any control where they choose to surface, do you?

I'm sure some of the boaters in Florida would love to share about the "science" used to establish all the Manatee Zones.

It sounds to me, like this is a solution to a problem that doesn't exist.

When you do nothing for a living, you can't just rest on your laurels. There's always a new nothing that needs branching into. Ugh.

Worthless at 650 feet.
