Lots of tailer talk on here lately. What do you other guys have for toungue wieght on the trailer of your 22zx. Mine sits on a dual axle loadrite with disc brakes on the front axle. I don't know exactly what the weight is but it's heavy. Two large guys can't even move it. With my rough math the boat should weight approx 4000. I think the tonge weight should be no more than 10%=400lbs. Lots more than that. I can move the boat forward and backward about 6". What do you think I should try?

How do I take weight off the tongue? I'm thinking about selling my 2500 and buying a tahoe but I want it to ride safely and comfortably and I think it should be better than it is.

I remember reading that boat trailers can generally run less tongue weight than the normally accepted 10%. The reasoning was based on the length of the trailer for the amount of weight it carries and the positioning of the weight.

I don't have the link to where I saw that, but it was on the net, so it must be true.

Here is my home made scale. You will need a luggage scale.

In Powerpoint and Word.:)

OK, I was bored.:bonk:

Yeller is correct 400 would be about max for a boat trailer! Since the pages won't load the article from trailer magazine states 6% to 10% for boat trailers and up to 15% for travel trailers.

Ah Ha Found the original post with the pages!!http://www.donzi.net/forums/showthread.php?t=43959

I like mine better. Besides, everyone should have a luggage scale. They can pay for themselves in one trip.

boat + trailer + fuel + goodies = what?

Boat weight(dry) 3600lbs
50gals gas x 6.5lb = 325lbs
gear for the day aprox 200lbs
Total 4125lbs

Trailer has two 3000lb axles and toungue sticker says it can hold 5200lbs so I assume the frame, bunks, etc weigh roughly 800lbs.

Sounds about the same as mine, I have mine at a tad over 300!

What is wrong with getting on the bathroom scale and then lifting the luggage, don't need the balance bar hanging from the ceiling! :rlol:

Not accurate enough. When you vacation like I do, with scuba gear, etc., it can get real expensive when you are overweight.

Best $20 bucks I've ever spent.:)

Now how did I know you would do a "Drawers Drop" on me!

I don't dive anymore, was doing a salvage job years back and had a cold. Never dive with a cold, it resulted in reverse blockage and loss of hearing in one ear for over a year. Now if I go down more then about 8 feet I get a painful spike in that ear, I loved diving and loved the money even more. Not sure what the hourly rate is now but I was getting $60 when I could find work out by me, did a few bottoms, zinc jobs and a few jobs for insurance stuff.
