will it work?

We have one here, installed last year, for study and feasibility. Interesting to see what becomes of these. Seems like a better idea than windmills cuz there is not a day that goes by that the tides and currents do not.

Pretty cool. I read a few days ago where something similar to this (appeared much smaller) was deployed in a river, and had the capacity to power 40 homes. There is so much power, that early prototypes snapped off blades within 24 hours. May have been in the Science\Tech section of the NYTimes.

I've seen a few proposals to do something similar under the golden gate.

Seems like a no-brainer at first, but like anything I'm sure there are some environmental costs. After all, if they can complain about wind power (it's like a giant quisenart chopping up the birds!) I'm sure there's something just as bad about this too....:nilly:

The fact is, no energy comes 'free'. It's just a matter of weighing the costs.
