There's a ton of 342 Luhrs on the market, starting about $20K for beaters and up. Very few diesels though - mostly 454s.

Go Tex Go. Roller Girl is lonely. Cruising is a blast.

The only problem is that I won't be half the first mate as Tex. Hedge likes to party once we leave the dock.

I am still reflecting back on the great trip.

Good call Buiz!:pimp:

Jim, is Luhrs a Luhrs or is the hull a Trojan, Bertam, Hatteras... whatever ???

A pair of gas motors doesn't intrigue me... :(

...nor should it thank God... :)

a pair of CATS in there would be neat.

for the river cruising they do, this is PERFECT... FWC engines, low hours, every necessity known to man already there... turn key

no brainer for 38.9k and that's just the asking price

Yah man!

I would love a set of Cats in my cruiser but those Crusaders work just fine. They run and run. I can actually work on them myself and no diesel smell. Also in the great scheme of things bobtail replacements are stupid cheap.

Big difference in what you need to cruise on the Tn river system vs the big water but our cruising grounds still offer tons of fun.

i'm actually working on a 37' repowered Silverton today with 320 Cat's... the 342 has the hull of a Luhrs and the top structure along the Silverton lines... I just saw this 342 online and thought it was incredible inshore cruising value.. stupid cheap.. getting it from Cleveland to ChooChoo would be a voyage in itself...

Yep. I am in. Might have to break it up some.

10 days? I would think that would be hammering on it pretty good but I have not checked into it yet. On the other hand, at the "party pace" it would take me a week to get to the Land Between the Lakes.

Yes, when looking north for my contingency plan I used Cincy as a cutoff for bringing it back down by water. Even then it would probably have been a good bit cheaper to haul it. I kind of liked the idea of the cruise though.

I didn't realize parts were hard to find for them. The old detroit stuff is still everywhere :bonk: Yes, I agree, they are noisy.

3208's are great engines, can't complain there.

Just go ahead and buy a big one and dock it down the dock from mine. That way you won't have to worry about towing it!

Think of the fun that can be had. Then the whole TN river system will be yours.

Casual hook your truck up and go is 8.5 feet. With permits and restrictions I think you can go 12 feet or better. At least around here...

Frank

zelatore

8.5' is the most common, although it varies state by state. 10' is usually acceptable with some basic provisions such as oversize mirrors. Largely you'll find it depends on how big the boat you are towing 'looks'. If it's a low profile performance boat even if it's closer to 10' you're less likely to draw attention that if it's a flybridge or larger cruiser type boat. I don't think any state lets you go over 10' without special permits. Again, you might get by but if you get stopped be prepared to pay the price.

Of course, if you're willing to spend the big money you can tow just about anything anywhere. My 72 Marquis got from WI to CA by truck. Well, 3 trucks actually. And a CHP escort. And a whole lotta money!

I think he is talking about smaller cruisers without a bridge.

Not like the big boats of this discussion.

Removing my bridge does not look remotely fun at all.

who me?

I was actually talking about some of the small flybridge boats in the 28-32' range. I've towed a 28 Bayliner flybridge around here a bit without taking it apart. I _was_ very nervous about some of the overpasses and tunnels though!

Not a very good picture, but all I've got on the 'ol computator.

Back to the Drawing Board....The Boat I was looking to make the deal on was sold....Funny thing is the broker never even got back with me, I had to call him. I said Fax the paperwork to me on wednesday he said he would...nothing, I followed up today and he tells me an offer was made yesterday (Thursday) and the owner took it pending the sea trial and survey....Oh well there is plenty to buy out there....his loss will be my gain. You would think any good broker would have taken the best offer to the owner with two people interested in the boat and play it off to get the most money out of the boat, some people amaze me...only reason I was looking hard and made my mind up on this one was a set of 1900 hour cats...snooze you loose

Lazy ass Broker...

Now to really begin to find the right one...
