I"m going to do the first oil change on the ZX. 6.2 MPI's. The filters on there are upside down (freaking wonderful idea that is). The filter number is 35-866340k01.

It looks like the Purolator Pure 1 match up is PL20049. is this correct?

Merc calls for 25-40 oil. I am thinking about running Mobil1 15-50. It's readily available by me and I like Mobil 1 products.

I don't want to void the warranty. Getting mercruiser parts around here is special order or mail order. I'd rather just get something from the local store. Comments are welcome! let me know what you think.

Dont do the mobile 1 yet,let the motors brake in first,50 hr or so..your local wallmart sells the 25w40 for 19.00 for a 5 qt jug as for the filters when you drain the pans then disconnect the coils and crank the engines over a few times.this will drain most of the oil out of the filters, also their will be more oil in the oil pan to suck out..use the merc filters for warranty perpose..

Is that oil from wal mart the merc oil?

The merc filters will be a pain to find around here. we can't get anything I/O related. will another brand of filter hurt?

Even the marine stores around here barely stock any I/O stuff. West marine has the best success rate, about 50%, and it's on the other side of town. I need more salt away though, so I'll see if they have the Merc filters.

thanks for the wal mart tip. I'll check for it there later today.

Wix filters are my choice.......a big rag around the base of the remote oil filter usually catches most of the mess............

I wouldn't use the Sierra filters, or Fram for that matter...

I just bought 150 cases of 15-50 Mobil last Thursday... I have to buy that much a month just to get decent QT pricing.. :nilly:

That might be what I do then. I can't stand this 4.5 quart crap.
