Alright so I need more help trying to ID my drive. There is no Serial number plate on it. Its a 1976 16 Donzi. I have been searching around the Doug Russel website for parts but nothing seems to match up to mine. I took a couple pictures. Does anybody recognise the gimble assembly. My father says it doesn't look like any drive he has worked on. Can anybody tell me what model this is so I can order parts and get this boat in the lake this year. thanks again Chris

where are the pics of the actual drive especially a pic of the anti cav plate

now that it is off the boat turn the input shaft mark the prop shaft and see how far the input shaft turns in relation to one turn of the prop shaft should be 1.3 or 1.6 of a turn

Here is a picture of the drive. I think its a 270 or a 280. The gimbal bearing carrier???? seems to be different then all the parts diagrams I can find.

A couple more pics of the transom shield would be helpfull to ID that. Pics of the drive both side and rear views as well. Try to show the whole thing in both cases.

BTW: if you are worried about that piece missing around where the tilt actuator comes through I ran one that way for years...

Where are you headed here? What parts do you need? What are you trying to do?

OK cool I have a 280. Thanks Penbroke. The gimble bearing carrier assembly seems to be different then the parts diagrams I have been looking at. The carrier and the bellhousing are one piece of all the 280 diagrams I could find. Mine is a two piece and is a lot different then the diagrams. I want to replace the gimbal bearings and the seals.

Also their should be numbers on the seals and bearings, you could match them up that way also..

The bearings are available from NAPA Auto Parts. The seals are common parts as well. Pull them out, clean them up and get the numbers off them and call around to your local bearing supply houses. They don't know or care about old Donzis so don't even go there. They just know part numbers and dimensions...

My boat is a '66 and I'm in Vermont. I picked mine up locally and I doubt I paid more than $30 for the whole deal. PM or e-mail me if you hit a roadblock.
