I need advice on hyd. strg. I have a Alpha 1 drive and need a full system with two rams. What is the best co. to deal with if not the most reasonable? I am at wot speed I am not comfortable with. I just want to be safe. Anyone??

IMO Zieger Performance Steering is a pretty nice system, call Jaime @ Lakeside Restorations or Bill @ Diamond Performance Marine for a price check...many here on this board have put Zieger systems on our 22 classics and we all love them.....:)

Alpha has a more limited selection. It seems that not many companies make systems for them.

Called Diamond Perf. Imco lists a full steering unit for a Alpha. Appears that two systems are offered. The difference is the ram location on the transom. Somewhat confused. Will call Diamond to sort things out. Are there any Alphas on the board that have hyd. steering??

cp performance has some great options for Alfa drives.
You can get away with a single ram system that hooks up to the merc power steering.

Yes, You are correct.. The Zeiger is a very nice system.. I also sell & install Latham, Imco, Mayfair AS well as the Zeiger kits.. They all have their pros & cons, but overall are similar.. If you are stil looking feel free to call me.. :)

I did some research on single versus duel ram setups. Looking at the inside transom I noted that thickness of the hull is drastically reduced at or about 6" from the transom assembly. Using a single ram would put a lot of pressure on the thinnest part of the hull even with a backing plate. Was advised to use duel ram to offset this problem of stress. If you think about it, it really makes sense. There are other advantages also which negates the cost of a extra ram. As of now leaning toward a Imco full system.

I did significant work to get the support needed but two rams would be better Good luck

Can't go wrong with IMCO nice system, good luck keep us posted, and post some pics when ya can......:) by the way I think a dual ram setup is the only way you are doing it right IMO:):)....it also looks better than a single ram..

Tmdog, beat me to the reasoning for twin rams no the other plus is that the twin rams support the gimble housing as well. The plus far out weigh the cost. The other thing is that TM never does anything half way. Not to start a debate I have Imco and think the really look good.

Was wondering if there is a hydraulic steering setup available for an 18' classic with a BBC and King Cobra drive?

And better yet, what would it cost to purchase and have installed?

Inquiring minds want to know...

TMDog, This reminds me that next week I am going to need some ballast in my boat for the final break in (your just about the right weight) Maybe if I feel good we can drive down to Holiday for lunch. I was thinking the boys too.
