I found the ad on CL today, and since it was rare to find one local, I went and checked it out.

http://spokane.craigslist.org/boa/1223367702.html

The boat is very clean for its age. Interior is a 9 out of 10 for sure, under the hatch was very clean....Stainless windsheild, silent choice, nice optioned boat....

But theres blisters all over the sides right above the boot stripe. Owner says the PO kept it on a lift its whole life (up until 4 years ago). I called a shop back in Seattle who did work on my friends boat, and they said thats an easy 5 grand to fix. I called the owner and told him that, and he didn't seem too happy.

Here's the pics I took of the boat:

I like the boat alot. Not a huge fan of the teal sides, but if the blisters need to go, then the sides could go white. If I can get the owner to pay to have this fixed, what do you think the boat is worth?

Thanks, and sorry for the newb questions.

and the two colors on the transom indicate that the boat could have sat in the water for a long period of time.

This kind of damage is very difficult to repair, as you don't know how much water damage is lying just under those blisters in the gel until you dig into them.

You would have to re-gel or paint the sides of the boat, to get a matching finish.

In good conditon the boat is likely worth $15-17 in a good market, maybe a little more. I would get an accurate estimate based on a physical inspection, before making an offer contingent on repair costs. If you decide to go forward, it would be your responsibility to see the repairs through, based on a discounted number for the boat to cover them. Expecting the owner to see the repairs through to your satisfaction isn't reasonable.

My end opinion? I would pass, unless you feel lucky.

And the market sucks right now.

Cobra drives, as much as some people love them, are a hit in value. I have looked at a ton of classics and can say it's a solid couple of grand less than a Merc equipped boat. It's the fear of parts availability.

I do love the teal though.

In all honesty, it doesn't cost that much to drive and pick one up. Make a trip out of it and get a deal while the market sucks.

Unless you're committed to buying a 22, I would suggest taking a look at this one.

The Minx is a great boat and only 2 feet shorter than the 22. I spent a day in cutwater's Minx a couple weekends ago and was blown away at the way it handled in the big water. And of course this gets you merc all the way:yes:

Fair enough. Very understandable. Just keep looking. Monitor the ones for sale on here and the ones on ebay. I'm sure more will pop up soon.

All the best

My 2c to add to rt's comments are: The fade line on the transom is also quite high, I'm guessing at least 4" above where my boat sits. So not only did it sit for a long time but I would guess it had a bilge full of water. Also why are the decals on the topside in front of the Donzi decals?

These are VERY good points, god I'm glad I asked you guys.

The very first thing you need to determine when dealing with blistering is > Paint or Gel:confused:? Blistering in paint is common for boats that are floating and is not really all that big of a deal. You just have to sand it out and re feather the paint. Gel on the other hand can be quite a bit more complicated.

This could be an indication of paint not Gel

The owner seems to think the boat is worth way more then it really is, so he can keep it.

Just found this one today.....way overpriced IMO, but I called, and they said its on consignment, and has been for almost 2 years. Might be worth checking out?

Overpriced IMO. Also, probably a 310 hp 7.4L, don't expect huge speed.

I would look for a little later 502 boat, or at least a 454 mag..

I agree with Roadtrip. PASS

There are a LOT of boats available for that kind of money. Since you do not mind the "roadtrip" then THAT IS WHAT I WOULD DO. I would get ready for some windshield time and go get one. Done a few like that now just north of you... :)

Let me know if I can help in any way.

Or my Minx, the eBay buyer is MIA at this point. The reality is the Minx Vs. 22 are just different. The Minx is taller so it has less wind blasting your face. Cup holders on the Minx, you sit more upright. Nice option for controls with the flat surface mount, like Zero Efforts, gaffrig's, etc. It's lighter, easier to tow, but still has a great ride that IMO is equal to the 22. The 22 though, well.......... A 22 is a 22. A Minx is a Minx.

Aparently the owner is claiming low 60's out of the boat.

still about 10k too much for a boat that has spent alot of time in salt....

Teal boat has the Holley...

I pass this place twice a day and have not seen this boat.

It must live inside.

I will stop tonight on my way home though.

The other one is on the other side of the state from me.

This one has the trailer included. The second advt says 'available'.

Ken won't steer you wrong, providing he can stay in the boat.

CaribouLou,

stopped by on my way home from work and go figure, the boat wasn't there.

It seems that this Marine Max actually has a marina and the boat is currently in the slip.

The current owner still owns the slip and the boat is in it.

I was showed a Marine Max form of a mechanical systems survey that was done and everything was good or ok. No structure check at all on this form. They did however have engine compression numbers and all the holes were 140 or 145. He would not give me a copy of the survey as they stated the current owner paid for it.

I was told the current owner is "an older" man, led to beleive he is in his early 60's and he just doesn't have time/use the boat any more.

If you would like to discuss, either PM me or call me at my office, 1-800-243-8645, 7:30-3:30 EST, cell 1-413-530-7379. I will not be in tomorrow as I will be boating.

If you would like to call Marine Max their number is 1-860-350-1729, ask for Brian Lewis, Brokerage Manager.

Oh, one final point, they raised the selling price.

Let me know if there is more info you need.
