Will a 496 ho drop straight in a 22ZX?

Yes everything will line up, mat have to rewire a few things and the exhaust will be off a tad but should be ok..

one nice thing about the 496 is is has a closed cooling system.

Does that mean it wont suck up salt water to cool the engine and does that mean it can be started out of the water?

it still has to suck up water to cool the heat exchanger that cools the antifreeze in the engine..then the water gets dumped out the exhaust,if your running in salt water you still need the flush the engine with fresh water or your heat exchanger and exhaust manifolds will corroad and rot out..you still have to run the engine on a hose or your going to distroy the impeller on the seapump:)

P.s. the old engine is still worth a few grand,put it on ebay to cover some of the cost..

Ahh i see, sorry for all the newbie questions, just trying to get my head round how all this works.


Last question, is the 490 ho a good engine to supercharge? does it deal with FI well and whats the best kit to buy?

Might wanna check these 2 threads.....496 ho is pretty good like it is....But if your planning on putting a lot of mods to it a 502 might be the way to go.

Thanks, i will have a read through them tonight, i dont want a 502 as that would mean using bits from my 454 that ive had nothing but trouble with, i want a complete new package with full UK warranty.
