Hit some rocks at half speed in the Niagara River TWO seasons ago. Last season, repaired the SS prop, replaced the insert, left the skeg with a bite out of it and changed the lube. I did notice that the prop would no longer make a perfect circle when spun by hand, evidence that damage was more then superficial. Took a chance leaving it alone and for all of 2008 had a great season, no issues.
Now to 2009, the marina mechanic told me to get it fixed. It was insured subject to deductible. Here is a rundown of the claim:
skeg repair $ 110 L
prop repair 110 L
R/R prop shaft 690 P
R/R carrier housing 180 P
R/R gear lube 35 P
Shop materials 25 P
skeg and prop labor R&I 165 L
Total labor 826 w/tax (109/hr x 3.5 hrs)
Total parts 1015 w/tax
1841, less 750 deductible, net $1091
What are the collective thoughts of the more experienced members regarding the repair cost?
Progressive insurance was great handling the claim. I pay only $238 annually including an agreed-to value of $17,000, and coupled to an Allstate Umbrella.
