The question, more specifically: is this a 2008 Donzi?

That's what I thought but Donzi is claiming it's a 2008. :confused::confused::confused:

Not naming any names, but I have seen manufacturers issue new HINs for unsold boats before. There was some logic behind it, but it's still a little wonky.

But yeah, according to the HIN, that boat was built in October '06 as an '07 exactly like Matty said.

Here's the basics of how to read the HIN:

Sept '06 build, '07 model year

not sure that you don't use the letter *I* when counting months...

Is it Donzi making the claim, or a dealer?

Donzi themselves. I'm trying to close a deal directly with them and I'm so freaking close I can taste it, but I keep getting tripped up on some F-ing thing.

Super frustrated today. :nilly:

I'm actually so frustrated I'd take 10k for my Minx if I could sell it this week.

"I" do  sept oct whatever it takes

Jim do you know what the reason is behind it maybe cause it could be mistaken for a 1????

Guys just spitballing here but wasn't the 26 zx dropped from the line up around this time so maybe the hull sat unrigged at the shop and was eventually rigged in 08 ???

Jim do you know what the reason is behind it maybe cause it could be mistaken for a 1???? that's what I was told by the FWC and Wellcraft... personally, i've never seen an I in a hull number, not in the last 25 years anyways...

Ok... word from Donzi, Jim is correct BUT it is on their books as a 2008 so it will be titled as a 2008.

I guess this makes sense... We had a 1990 45 Viking with a 1989 Hull number, I think this is the same concept.

Anyone see anything wrong with that?

Sicf0066m84k i is on the MFG side, not date side, that's always been okay... the m proves it's a Dec 84 build, probably 85 model year, and they didn't use the I anymore... what's with the k?

If they sell it to you as an '08, it should have a new HIN issued and attached on the boat that says it's an '08. Otherwise when you go to sell it down the road you're going to run into the same issue again. And you'll have a harder time convincing a buyer that it's on the up and up as an individual than they would as a manufacturer. You could also run into possible insurance or registration issues if you claim it's an '08 when the HIN doesn't indicate so.

Like I said, I've seen manufacturers re-issue HINs before. It can be done, and I'd insist on it for your own protection later.

The point where your Viking had an 89 hull number but 90 model year is common, and should be reflected in the coding of the HIN. The HIN I posted above (with the 'I' in it) is an example; that boat was built at the end of '08 but is titled as an '09.

Or,,, price it as the '07 that it actually is...

If I really wanted a boat, I wouldn't care what year was printed on the side of it.

I don't know why you are so ate up to sell the Minx after dropping that much money in it. Trust me, you will eventually wonder why the hell you sold the Minx to get a ZXO. You can take that to the bank, along with the payment book for the ZXO.
