im not knocking your engine builder but why did he mix up all the rod bolts?
usually when you ballance as a assembly you want to keep everything with the same component that its ballanced to:wink:

That picture was taken as we were unpacking (everything was new)and before ballancing.
I will find out the cam info and comp. is 10.5 to 1 using ava gas in the boat. I live near a small airport and have used this gas for years now.
A bit $$ but I like the way it smells and preforms.

Gotcha! looks like its ready for assembly tho with the rod bearings in place,,thats not the way we ballance the assembly,we do everything in pieces after the final bore and the rings are file fitted to the cylinders..

Ava gas not good for car engines because of all the additives in it to keep it from freezing in the high altitudes that airplanes fly,it will eventually eat up all the gaskets in the engine.

A few pictures of the boat before with the old 383.
It ran great with that but the engine had some issues inside that made me go this way of having a engine buit from the bottom up .
It will should be done next week.

I did not know that about the av gas.
I aclualy mix about 50 50 with pump 93 will this cut down on the eventual issues with the gaskets?
Any other good way to increase the octane that you would advise?
Thank you for your input.

I will check with the builder on the cc size.

10.5 compression is a little high for a marine engine......not unheard of by any means.........

My 408 in my 18 had 10.1 compression, as long as I ran premium gas it was fine. Boat motor Heads run cooler than auto heads so detonation is less likely. I think 8318 will find that the 400ci is the correct motor for a 18 Donzi. With all the good stuff he used he should be able to let it sing pretty well. (makes me want to build another)

I'm running 10.6:1 in a big block with aluminum heads, 34 degrees advance full in and 93 octane fuel at 5600-5800 rpms. So far, so good.

Runnin' 10.9-1 406 sbc Dart alum heads,36 degrees, 92 oct. 5500-5600 for 2 years now. Dyno 440@5250. Get by with higher comp with alum heads in a boat, not as likely to detonate.

madpoodle,
The 383 is yours for the price of shipping.
The question is would you or anyone want it?
The 383 blew up before I had it and was rebuilt ,,,,well not to the standards that I would use.
3 of the cylinder wals have nicks in them, the block was boared to 48 over my bulider tlod me 45 is as far As you want to go.
There is strange ware in every jug about 2/3 the way up the wall. It looks like the boring was done with out a boreing head instaled (not sure what they call the thing but it duplicates the actions that securing a head on a block does to the block during boring) causing a tight spot in the bore.
The heads were not matched and one gave at least 1 point higher compression. rods and crank are nothing more than atomotive stuf.
The only thing we got to use from the old 383 are the motor mounts.
