I have a couple Optima blue top dual purpose batteries that I've been using for about 2.5 years on a 24 volt trolling motor. I probably run the motor a couple hours a week on average. When not in use they stay on a pretty good charger / tender. I have not noticed any decrease in performance.

Should I be thinking about replacing these as a precaution or are they likely to live a few more years?

Thanks,
Dan

I just got seven years out of my starting battery. It would probably still be working if I hadn't left the key on for over a year.

Btw, it fired right up on 2+ year old gas.

The proper way to charge an Optima is.. at least 100amps for 15 minutes, let battery and charger cool for 15 min, then at least 100amps for 15 minutes-let battery and charger cool for 15 min...Repeat (4) Four times, then charge 2-10 amps for 24hrs minimum... Theres a link to Batteriesrus that explains it in great detail, I'll find it and put it up....

I don't know how to compress the link so you'll just have to use the whole thing...But you'll know how to charge and care for batteries when your done....

I have the same batteries in my boat, they have never been on a tender and have not failed me. They have been in there since late 2003.
