hi guys -

i just registered at this site because i have started to look for a mid 90's donzi 18.

in that age range, are there known "trouble spots" or "problem areas" that i should look out for.

obviously, the use, care and upkeep of each boat will determine a lot - but i was hoping to pull from all of your expertise on what to look for and what to avoid.

thanks in advance for your help.

ps - this a repost from the "boats for sale" section

Post 1994 is a transition from OMC to AMH (American Marine Holdings). IMO from 1994 on the quality improved. That's not to say a 94-prior model is of bad quality, it's not, I'm just saying that AMH continually improved their product. There are alot of changes in the 1990-2000 18's year to year (too many to list.

What are you looking for specifically? What's your price range? I might know of a 1997 18 Classic, white hull, red stripes, well maintained with an all stock MAG 350MPI and rare Bravo One with some modest hardware upgrades sitting on a tandem trailer in the $17k - $18K range.

Things I would look for in an 18.

350 Mag MPI, great on fuel.
Bravo or Alpha, Bravos are rare on 18's. Alphas are fine with that HP.
Trim tabs. Weight distribution.
Q&Q exhaust. Nice option depending on where you drive.
I am partial to solid colored sides, mine was red.
Windshield or grab rail. Your choice.
Good trailer. single of dual axle. singles maneuver a little better. (Nobody start a debate on trailers):bonk:

Hope this helps.

 I'm just not using it much anymore, but I can't bring myself to "officially" list it for sale.

Many pre-1994's came with OMC power and King Cobra drives. Great package, but Cobra parts are getting a little harder to come by........
