The bravest of the brave.
The old man who lives behind he is a true American hero. I knew he was in the Army, so I asked if he was in WWII. He said he was, and that he jumped behind the lines on D-Day, and behind the lines during the Battle of the Bulge. One morning on Memorial Day, I came around the corner just as he was standing erect in front of his American flag, and snapped a salute to it.

Indeed. The bravest of the brave.
I don't know who first said that without fear, there is no courage. But I find it an incredibly important point. Those guys were absolutely as frightened as is possible, AND THEY DID IT ANYWAY. I don't really think most of us, myself include, can fully comprehend that without ourselves doing something similar someday. God willing we will not ever have to.
