1986 Hornet 3, 330 Merc, TRS drive, BW transmission,

I'm working on getting the trim gauge that has never worked, working....

along with cleaning up the octupus of wires the PO left me under the hatch...

ok, so I have 2 sets of black wires going thru the transom to the outdrive to the position senders...let's call them AB and CD.

AB connects at the trim pump...A going to a purple with white stripe.

C goes to ground on the transmission and is also connected to a brown wire with white stripe coming from the wiring harness

D...is just hanging there....

I'm thinking that C should go to the brown and white, and D should be ground?

I have a purple with white stripe coming from the gauge, and a purple with white at the trim pump connecting to one of the other black wires...

right now the gauge reads full down, all the time, shut off power, it goes full up...

I did find a post regarding replacing the sender...should i just do that and be done with it? obviously one is working, the limit works and the drive trims normally...

any help would be appreciated....

YES perfect, from your pic, one wire goes to ground, and one goes to the brown and white...on mine, the PO had the one wire grounded AND going to the brown and hite, with the other wire loose...

thanks!
