It except for the work part is pretty easy! If you are handy you will do just fine, keep a pad & pencil handy for where what goes when it goes back together! Start by removing anything attached to the engine, be diligent look in every nook & cranny there are wires and hoses etc. Fuel line should be plugged with a bolt and a clamp, also take all the wires off the battery. The drive must come off, make sure it is in forward gear the rest is just bunch of nuts and a few :cussball: it is good to put some wood under the skeg so it is just touch, long enough to be able to slide it out. Take the bolts out of the mount bases remove the engine with the mounts complete, remove the exhaust hoses and manifolds makes the job a ton easier. Hook up to the engine lift a bit then it needs to be rotated 90 degrees then it is up and out.
If I or anyone else thinks of anything else either they or I will update the post, several of us have pulled a ton of engines and has become second nature so we may forget a detail or two. When you are ready to put it back I wrote s decent post and will post that link when you need it.

I've only been online with this board for a few days, but can tell it is worth its weight in gold (whatever that is...)
What I mean is that the members seem knowledgable and willing to help. I'll mostly be asking questions for awhile but hope to be able to help as my experience at re-entering the boating world increases.

Thanks Phil!! I hope you got my response about 'brown goo' coming out of the top side openings of the engine! Water in oil for sure:(

Here is where I am headed---http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/L31-CHEVY-SBC-PARTIAL-CRATE-MOTOR-350-100-BRAND-NEW_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZQ7c301Q3a1Q7c293Q3 a15Q7c294Q3a30QQ_trksidZp4634Q2ec0Q2em14Q2el1262QQ hashZitem3a4d47f2a6QQitemZ250404663974QQptZMotorsQ 5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories This company also has aluminum heads, various cams /roller rockers etc. at reasonable prices. Looks like I can get 350 to 400hp bolting the merc fuel injection and all other worthwhile Merc parts back on this package. Am I wrong????

Thanks PenBroke, That is the same link I tried to post in an abbreviated form. Those 4bolt main short blocks with their alum. heads look pretty good to me!

I know that is a decent deal, a bud bought one it was all they said. Only one minor detractor the cam galley plug is plain steel, make sure you check yours. No biggy clean it well and prime and paint, nothing like pulling a perfectly good engine for one lousy plug drooling oil.
