Hi, I always liked Donzi`s since I was a kid and I just bought my second donzi,( first 88 z-25 that i sold) and now a 1989 30 black widow that is in great condition, i am going over all the mechanical parts of it, and i found that one of the drives has play in it, my question was. where can i find replacement parts for 89 omc cobra drives (not king cobra)

thank you

:cool: www.fasteddiesdiscountparts.com 800-531-4486 I speak to Brad - I got my King Cobra clutch last year from them in less than 72 hours.

Good Luck

Where is the play?
on one of my drives, when i turn to either clock wise or conter clock wise (shifter in nutral):there is a fliquering sound (kloq kloq kloq) and if i pull on the prop ther is a small play and when i am turning the prop. while pulling on it the souds desapears. I spoke to some omc stern specialist and they said it is normal !, just drop your oil and check for metal shavings and water contamination. i did it tonight and the only metal shavings i saw where a small amount on the magnets of the drain plugs ( but i don`t know when the last owner changed the oil) . Also when they where drained i noticed a table spoon of whiter stuff on the top of the oil

let me know. thanks

Am I understanding that when you pull the prop shaft the sound goes away? If so there may not be any damage but a new set of bearings, a seal job to stop the water intrusion and proper setup. Not to pricy but it is getting harder to find guys that have all the tools and are willing to work on them. I know the drives fairly well they are a very tough beast, Dr. Dan has been proving that point for several years putting some big power through his. IMO if the boat is sweet spend the bucks I doubt you will have any regrets.

thanks,. I ask my tec. who was working with omc for 35 years and he recomanded to leave it as iti is and just do a flush with good oil ( they recomanded merc. hp green) and to check the oil in 30 hours.

you mentioned that the omc cobra drives ( NOT KING COBRAS) where tough , i was thinking of doing modification to the ford 460's stock 340 hp next winter : cam, intake , carb, heathers. roller rockers and ignition.
give me your opinion , and if positive do those drives are afected with big lift cams ?

thanks for you help

If yours are not the "HUMP" topped King as I read above, being hooked to 460's there is a real good chance you have the early King Cobra. Which was nothing more then a little beefier version of the standard Cobra. When hooked to the 460 had stronger gears making them a little better, but IMO not tough enough for much more HP then a stock 460. Another point is if you wanted to put a set of hump kingd you need shields and drives, pretty tall order!

to bad, i gues i will stay with the stock combo, it runs good anyway !
p.s. are they reliable those regular cobra`s ?
