broke a blade off one of my props this past weekend

not sure if it blew off or I hit something and it came off either way its not there :)

anyways

doesn't really work very well the way it is and was wondering if anyone would have some recommendations as to a location that might be able to repair it

so we are clear it is now spinning 5 blades (no more reason to be envious of the set-up if you are currently only running 5) as the missing blade is completely gone :smash:

Or should I just say f#@k it and put it the busted one on the wall and flog the extra one to a member who would only need one?

pretty cool actually there is a mark on the drive where it came off

Between the option of hitting something or it just happened to have fallen off, I'd say you hit something (log maybe?) :smash:

Someone was just selling a rear BH prop too... who the heck was that? Anyone remember?

we were talking about that on the weekend can you imagine if it went up instead of down :nilly:

the only reason i said fallen off is a cig guy was inspecting it and said it looked like a bad weld

I think it is a combination of the 2

we were running in a crowd and if the guy ahead of me knocked something down it is possible it came up at the right time and hit the one blade which knocked it down again before it hit the second prop

was thinking wall ornament myself

It will look nice next to that huge Donzi decal / sign you got.

Surfacing props are only good for so long no matter how well made they are...it is not a situation of if you lose one it is when...Use it for a paper weight.

Glashole I have to say you have a super nice ride and it was great meeting you over the weekeend:shocking: ....you represented Canada :canada: well and that thing can run for sure ! you have me looking for a blackhawk boat sans power and drive, anyone know where one is?:crossfing:

Tex is 100% right the blades load and unload the flexing caused by that work hardens the material, don't even dream about getting it fixed.

not sure how it works in texas but in Canada we call the pointy end of the boat the front

wait

went back and read my other post

we call the props by looking at them from the blunt end of the boat in a counter clockwise direction

I used to live near Throttle Up in St Pete, I've met Julie, her husband, and the guy that actually balances and tunes the props. Julie said near every single hi perf Merc prop will have a flaw in it, which could result in a hole in your hull. Throttle Up makes CNC props now, that are formed from a single piece of metal. Catch 22 has talked to Julie, and bought a CNC prop from them too. All I've done was borrow props from Julie to see if they worked better on my boat(s).

As a prop guy, it is not repairable, fixable or refurbished in any way shape or form. Generally about 22 hours and better inspect every outing.

I talked to the local welding guy, he specializes in stainless steel and whatnot

he doesn't have much experience with props but seems to think he can weld on a peice and shape it to suit on a lathe or cnc or whatever machine he has down there

seems pretty reasonable too

I will let you guys know how i make out

If you are going to fix it, at least send it to a prop specialist.

A sharp piece of metal spinning at 3000+ RPM isn't exactly something I'd like a novice working on.

he said i can save a few bucks by not using stainless on the extra blade

what do you guys think save the cake or just blow the wad and go with a stainless steel ear on the prop?

Well you got me to bite, and bite hard. :hyper:

I wouldn't use the stainless. I'd just use whatever he had sitting around the shop and paint the new blade with rattlecan silver. You'll never know the difference.
