If I am reading correctly from my Clymers Mercruiser Sterndrive Manual, (1986-1994) the SMALL Diameteris 1.150 inches. It appears there are more than one alignment tool for Apha I Gen I, versus Gen II. One of the tools can be modified by removing material.....I'm guessing in a Lathe..to work on both....resulting in the 1.150 Dia. The Part No. for the tool that works for both is 91-805475A1

I would double check this with someone more knowledgeable than myself. John

Here's my situation: I have a new (non OEM) allignment tool that will not slide into my coupler more than about 1/4". The drive slides on and off just fine so I don't think the allignment is that far off. The tool measures 1.008" and I'm thinking it may be a bit oversize?

I can't pull the gimbal bearing out because I need it in position to mark the allignment tool for locating a gimbal bearing driver that attaches to the allignment tool. (I hope that makes sense...)

Keep in mind that I'm a mostly a Volvo guy so this is all new to me...

I heard back from the guy that makes the tools. He said that 1.010" is the correct number. I'll try rotating the engine tomorrow.

Thanks,
Frank
