Just completed my first BBC rebuild which went really well by the way. Hoping to run it next week. This is actually going in the 1980 Hornet II. A few of you may have seen my previous post with the restoration of the boat.

While installing the risers, i noticed that there is quite of bit of play forward backward and side to side between due to the extra space in the bolt cutouts on the riser flange. I'm assuming that proper alignment is critical to avoid water leaking into the exhaust. I centered the riser as best i could and used a bit of high tack on both sides of the gasket. Am i worrying about it more than i really need to? Or is there a science to getting these things aligned just right?

Thanks.

Here are a few pics of the engine

They are a bit wiggly but not to worry! Question different issue will you be running in salt?

Growing up, I was always a Ford guy. (still am, for the most part)

But there was always one thing I thought was too cool about the Chevy guys....

....orange motors look great!

Do some early prep on the aluminum pan and timing cover, they will corrode I know I am running them also. I keep mine in check with CRC Rust Preventative, the timing covers seem to go first followed by the pan. Shooting CRC kind of kills the bling but it is better then the alternative.

Tried blue for Fords and Chryslers and orange for Chevy. Now all my motors are black.

Funny, my '72 440's were blue.
