My fish boat is a 12' Wilderness Systems Pungo kayak. I have a portable depth finder similar to this (powerded by 4 AA batteries) - it is made to toss from th bank or dock:

I tried siliconing the transducer to shoot through the hull right behind the seat but I do not get valid depth readings. Is the unit just too under powered or do I need a different product (epoxy, marinetex, ?) to attach it to the hull. The hull is some type of plastic material (ABS?)
