I'm having my Myco trailer reconditioned this summer and it will be repainted purple to match the boat graphics. I'm going with new wheels as well and can't decide between these 2 designs so I thought I'd get some opinions from the group. What do you think, split spoke or 5 star design?

go split spoke. those 5 spokes are common on trailers now, and in my personal opinion kinda ugly unless they are the bigger sizes. on the plus side, the 5 spoke will be easier to clean.

If it were me, I'd just high polish the old ones. they look good

I like the split spoke. If you ship your old ones up to me I will polish them once a month, and, make sure they don't get flat spots:yes:...Ed

OK, I will be the odd man out. I am partial to the 5 spokes.

Where are you buying these? Good deal?

I'll try to post pics of mine, but I put a powerball to them and it's unreal how fast they come out like chrome...

ran out and took a pic.... with all the projects I have going I just needed a break and spent maybe 15 minutes on one wheel just to see how it would look. The flash exposes everything, it looks much better in the day in real light.

And yes... I lost it a couple times and got a bunch of cleaner on the tire. They are going to be replaced soon so it's all good.

My plan, when I have time, is to pull the wheels off one at a time and polish them correctly instead of a quickie job.

I wanna say the splits go more with the boat.

Someone else said it before and I agree--I think I like the originals best of all three.

Thanks for the responses guys, the poll confirms my first tendency which was the split spoke. Maybe I'll try to polish up the existing rims to see if that changes things.

I like the ones you have now with a little spit and polish :)

if you really want to polish them Eastwood makes a kit to do aluminum wheels. They will look like chrome when you are done.

If you are on the fence, just powerball it.

Vette thanks for posting that info, I'm pretty clueless as to what polishes and methods are out there. On that note, can you explain "powerball"? Your wheel pic looks pretty amazing where you polished it.

Probably lots of these, but I think this is the general idea. -Mike

Ghost got it. Mother's Powerball. For the wheels you gotta use the Mini version. They can be had at Wal Mart for about 20 bucks. http://www.autobarn.net/mothers-powerball-mini.html?site=google_base

It goes on a drill. I just use a cordless drill most of the time unless I'll be doing it for a while. You can use the cleaner that it comes with, it is pretty good. For really 'gone' wheels like mine I like mother's aluminum/mag wheel cleaner paste, it is in a small white can with a red label. I blop some on the wheel with a rag then use the powerball to spread it and work it in.

Eastwood has the ultimate kit(s). Professional grade stuff.

Check this: http://www.eastwoodco.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp?itemID=949&itemType=PRODUCT&iMainCat=433&iSubCat=436&iProductID=949

and this: http://www.eastwoodco.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp?itemID=953&itemType=PRODUCT&iMainCat=433&iSubCat=436&iProductID=953

If you use the 2nd one, they should come out like chrome... (you will probably have to skip a couple of steps because I don't think your wheels are clearcoated so you won't have to strip)

I did a set of wheels with the eastwood kit once.

If you got time to kill and like polishing stuff I say go for it. But if your time has value and you don't like quality time with an air polisher. Then buy some new wheels. Granted the wheels I did where a bit more complicated than the average wheel but what a pain. Unless you have a unique wheel your are trying to bring back to life it is usually not worth the effort. I put more hours into those wheels than I care to admit.

fwiw, a friend of mine gave me (in response to my begging) 4 14x7 Torq Thrust type wheels for my Arabian. They fit the hub, and the offset is fine, but the width hangs out of the fender...

I guess my trailer is set up for 5 or 5.5 inch wide wheels.

Maybe your new wheels are the similar width as the ones that came on your Myco, and that won't be a problem.

They fit the hub, and the offset is fine, but the width hangs out of the fender... the backspacing on those is about 4", you need 5 1/2" back spacing on a 7" rim or 4.5" on a 6" rim... only the American Outlaw series has that in a 5 lug 4 on 4.5 pattern, which is early Ford or Chrysler..
