I have some very nice neighbors who are originally from Tiawan. I think they've been here at least 25 years and are now citizens. However, they still speak their native language in the home and to each other.

Today, she was out in the yard nagging him big time, in her native tongue. While I couldn't understand a word of what she said, it was clearly an ass chewing. Regardless of the words, the tone, intonation and volume made that clear.

As one who has frequently been on the receiving end, I could only chuckle to myself and secretly feel sorry for the poor SOB.

I know what you mean. Pissed off women intonation is sort of universal.

However there are some languages that sound pissed off to me, when in reality they aren't. Japanese, German, either Mandarin or Cantonese, I can't remember which one is the harsh sounding one. They just sound harsh to me.
