I changed insurance companies the other day and told my new one I needed to insure my boat. Went through the whole deal, year, size, etc....

When it came to the engine, I told them it had a 6.2L 320 hp Mercruiser in it that I had pulled. They said they could not insure it. I asked why. He said the 1979 Criterion, in his database, came with a 280 HP engine. I said, no, it came with a 330 hp 7.4L. He said that option was not available until 1980. Since my 6.2L was 50 hp over, they could not insure it.

I guess my question is, I though all Critters came with 7.4L w/trs. If not, then what did mine originally come with?

Damn insurance.....Met with an adjuster on the house last sunday on this flood we just went through and he spent 30 minutes stating what he was not gonna cover....Left me thinking "Why the hell am I paying for flood insurance?" Good luck in your search....Have you checked with Progressive? They are pretty good with claims around here.....

There was never a lesser power in the Criters. You could order it but the options went up from the 330. in 1980 to the twin turbo 454 cid with whatever horsepower it was. Buiz has an original 79 which had a 454 330.

mine is an '80, one hull # before Grizz's... always a 330, I still have the complete original engine.. oh wait, the heads are somewhere else.. :biggrin.:

no mouse Critter's were ever built..

your agents database is wacky and unauthenticated, and that CAN be proven..

My 1982 22c had a 454/330 Trs which I believe was the only package available in 82, and I think the smallest available in a Critter.

2 problems:

1st, even if you have documentation that the insurance company is wrong, the insurance company is right. They are The Insurance Company - and they are never wrong!

2nd, I'm guessing you haven't mentioned that little blue package sitting in the shop yet?

I was just shopping around. It was Ski Safe, which is part of Geico. No biggy, will just stay with my current insurer.

Just found it odd they had the 1979 as a different stock hp than the 1980+ models.

No matter who you do end up with read the policy, several have a "modification" clause. I ran into that on 46 Hat years back, the guy had a much more powerful pair of S&S engines installed. His insurance company did a normal evaluation and the surveyor picked up on the engines, the company dropped him and he had a fair bit of trouble getting re insuring seems there is a dropped list somewhere and he made it!
