With the 540, I am going to have to quiet it down on one of my lakes. Looking at options.....diverters are expensive and I have a dry exhuast. Not sure about it.

Anyone try removable rear clamp on's? If so, what brand and how did they work?

How about inserts on CMI? Do they even make them?

ANy other options?

Want to be able to run WOT, just a little quieter.

I have the Gil slip ons, they are good enough to allow conversation. I think they are one of the quieter ones, any of the slip on's will mar your existing tips enough to be a pain getting them to polish back up.

Actually I have don a lot of research on this. The CMIs are self adjusting and work with dry whet pipes which is what you probably have. I have the same pipes on my Corsican, but I have the early switchable ones. Too bad that was 15 years ago. if it were today I would have the new ones. BTW Lavorsi sells them and they think they are the best. Do not put slip in on that motor, I don't care what they tell you. That engine will not like it, in more ways then one. It will let you know. Just trust me on this.

like grizz said, dont put anything inside the pipe,it will mess with the water flo and you may get reversion from it..them headers need either a silent choice style tailpipe or slip on's..gaffrig has been making them for years that are air acuated with a mini onboard air compressor that work the best but pricy,,ill see if i have any used ones laying around, gibson makes a turn down style that sit in the water whyli ideling,,ugly tho..

Just installed a set of Eddie Marine slip on's. Great reduction in noise, engine sounds no less healthy. No noticable reduction in performance or top end. I could not be happier. $80.00.

I have the air activated ones that Fixall said on the Corsican and I would like to go with the CMI self opening ones from CMI just a little quieter.

Switchable, totally quiet when needed, totally open when wanted.

I used the Gibson clamp ons. they worked well:superman:, as they are clamps not set screws they do not damage the existing muffler tips. Although they did not bring the decibels down into compliance for my yr boat in the Granite state. They were theoretically 2 decibels too loud ,but I never got a complaint with them alone.I went with Dapars also because I didn't want to be hassled by the MAN :lifeprese:. They are designed for wet exhaust:garfield:, so the Dapars wouldn't be applicable in your case. Here's the Gibson link if you want to check there application for your needshttp://www.gibsonmarine.com/powertip1.html:biggrin:
