...And I'm going to bed. You guys talk and I listen. This is a direct result of JustMercMe's thread and Hedgehog's link to OSO. Thanks. 25 hours of driving on 3 hours of sleep. 1,300 miles  Good Night.

Nice! I bet you will be beefing up the bottom and stringer system now, and
installing the external steering. Go with a solid race style engine mount, it really helps hold everything together too.

looks great Carl!

Awesome! I'm so jealous. That's my plan when I return from Hawaii. Also, you should just drive around town with the engine like that and see how many gawkers you get. Most morons probably think it's part of your truck...

Hell of a drive.

Did you get to check out John's toy box? Those 1,000's are some bad motors! And the rack of beefed up bravos to feed it?

Carl C
03-31-2009, 08:38 AM
Thanks everybody. I got up to put the dogs out and really need to get more sleep. I pushed myself to the limit yesterday but like they say, "you snooze you lose". The motor can't go in until winter for two big reasons; I can't void my warranty and it will be a big project done right with beefed up stringers and hull and lot of little details to tend to. Hedge, yes I saw his toyz and his engines. Very nice. Never saw a bigger fifth wheel either. I've got lots of garage space but he has a dream pole barn. I love a guy who's garage is bigger than his house; He's got his priorities straight.

Nashville. My truck has 850 hp but it's not hitting on all 16:confused:. Going back to sleep....I opened up space on my PM. Looks like I missed a couple things.

Or does the 22 appear to be shaking in fear in the background of that picture?

That is going to be too cool....

Now, as others have said here, I suggest you start shopping for a FULL hydraulic steering system.

And I would refuse all unauthorized packages from South Florida...

Nice Carl. Now Just do it correctly and the way you want with the boards help. Steering mounts strength and go.

Does the shop have a website? When I get back to the states in a couple of years I'll be looking for a 500 or 525.

Nope, this was a one time deal from a private seller. Motor has 35 hours running time. Keep an eye on the classifieds on OSO, Boatfreaks, Performanceboatforums, Speedwake and, of course, here. There is a 1300 hp Sterling on OSO for $30,000 obo.;)

You can cut the peer pressure with a knife... :biggrin.:

As much as I like doing things differently, rooting for the underdog, etc., bottom line is it will make one badass 22.

Which warranty are you worried about? The hull? Which you've had fixed to manufacturer specs or better? And you're going to make all additional reinforcements and improvements that everyone will suggest anyways?

F it, why wait? How's that for peer pressure?

It's not just the hull issue. I want to take my time and do this right. There will be stringer and glasswork to be done. Possible exhaust issues but since I already have the CMI Q&Q tails I might get lucky there. Lots of little things....Our boating season is just starting and I'm not going to miss it. I plan to spray some oil in the cylds, turn it over and let it sit til fall when I will pull the 496HO w/CMIs and get that listed. Will also be listing the complete stock all aluminum exhaust and a 26p M+.

Carl, you may want to pull the valve covers and loosen the poly locks on the rockers also to take some stress off the valve springs..i do it on mine every season, i bouble locked the allen set screws with another set of set screws in the center of the poly locks and all i have to do is loosen them up and tighten them back down when im ready to run my engine..this way you wont loose your valve adjustment..

Dwight, when I ordered my 496 CMIs I ordered the Q&Q tails. The headers look to be in the same position as the 525. Do you think I might get lucky and be able to use them? That would save a chunk of money. If not I will use your info to get the right part. Thanks. I will also need to find out how to do the motor mounts. It's early though.

Will do steering at the same time. Not sure what brand yet but there are a couple of thread here I will check out. I had to take the headers and valve covers off to attach the cherry picker chain without doing any damage. Got it back together.

Carl..I'm NOT positive but I think the eng deck heights on the 496 and 525 are different thus your current CMI's prob won't fit. PLEASE CALL CMI..tell them your situation...they will have the correct answer...

There are many engine mount options...here are a few..

No, don't need to. I will be selling the HO complete with the CMIs after this boating season.

Pressure test the pipes on it, they are about the only known and proven weak spot on that engine. Those CMI's were made to Merc specs, and are not the same quality as there normal stuff. A lot of owners are going to Stellings on their engines...
Best post in this thread!! I have seen countless 525's completely ruined from those headers gone bad!

Thanks for the part # Dwight. MP, I thought the late model pipes were better? These is a 2007 motor with the 2007 headers.
