K lake I use a suction pump. This way I can use it to dhange the oil in the merc trans. BTW only use type F in your trans otherwise the new clutches will slip, even with the Huber kit.

Like Griz says the suction pump is nice with little to no mess, but if you have the dip stick with the hose attachment that gets every last drop out. Make up an attachment to use it.

Got one of those too for the new boat.

I like the the hose that screws into the pan and runs out the hull drain hole.

I love it. I hang a 2.5 gallon jug off the stern and run the hose into it.

I then can go about my way doing other stuff while the oil is draining.

No fuss, no mess.

I did forget to mention that I have a remot drain hose that i attach the pump to. A friend of mine does the remote hose but he, when its time to drain the oil he routes the hose through his drain plug in the transom then uncaps it and lets it drain overnight.

Motive Products look at the Extractor . . .

Easy to use and can be connected to the hoses on the drain pan to change your oil in the boat while it's in the water!

Speaking of which...

Is there a difference between the drain plug of a 350 sbc MPI and a 454 bbc MPI?

Thanks,

Da Taz

With the HP500EFI I now have the drain hose that slides out the bilge drain for easier changes...but with the 502 I had the Top-side oil drain can...worked great..

Where do you get these? I know FRAM sells them alot of places for automobiles. Can I use the same one for a BBC truck motor, same oil pan? Or, should I spend 5X that prices on a "marine" part?

'99 454 MPI has the metric threads.

Thanks Ken.

I have an extra fitting that came with my kit if someone wants it after I install the kit on the new boat. All you would need is the hose and brass adapters.

Sounds like one is metric for BBC and one is AM for SBC?

Da Taz I my memory is still good, my '87 SBC was 1/2-20 on the oil drain.

The drain kit that screws into the pan and out the bilge plug. It's great. The simplest.

Mine had the "thru the drain plug" system on it new and it is great, I can change oil while the boat is on the lift with no mess or spills. IMO the only way to go! Steve

This is the best http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/producte/10001/-1/10001/268534/377%20710/0/oil%20change%20pump/Primary%20Search/mode%20matchallpartial/0/0?N=377%20710&Ne=0&Ntt=oil%20change%20pump&Ntk=Primary%20Search&Ntx=mode%20matchallpartial&Nao=0&Ns=0&keyword=oil%20change%20pump&isLTokenURL=true&storeNum=6&subdeptNum=169&classNum=170

wasted a lot of time and money on the fram drain kit, jabsco and other cheap hand held pumps.

I just bought a Performance Tool pump from NAPA and have pumped and pumped with no oil coming out. I've pushed the hose down as far as I can get it to go, with no oil coming out. Any ideas? Is this pump just junk?

Could anyone tell me where the drain plug is located in the 350/260? Would I have a total mess if I pulled the drain plug and let it run out with the bilge plug pulled and a container under the boat?

Thanks

AIR, it has nothing to do w/the engine size but the year it was made. At some point, GM changed to metric for all of them. It has to do w/SI compliance.

1) Is this a peristaltic pump w/the little crank on the side? If so, your suction hose may not be long enough, or the viscosity of the oil too great for the pump to pull it. If you think the suction hose is long enough, try starting and warming the engine first.
2a) If it's a stamped steel pan, it's probably located in the middle of the bottom.
2b) Yes.

What easy oil change kits have you guys used?

I have had one of these drain pumps with the bucket for at least 20 years. I have a few sizes of hose to go along with it to do any type engine oil change. I like to install a drain hose on the oil pan and use this to suck it out fairly quickly, but it will also do the job through the dipstick tube. Bill

I use one of those big suction bottles that sucks it out the dip stick tube.

Use it on all my cars except the '06 F250 diesel. (damn dip stick takes more turns then a ______ hooker) (fill in location of your choice) :shades:

I also have the kit that uses the oil pan drain plug. I got my from Overton's. Only proben is the hose end won't fit through bilge drain plug hole. So, I insert another hose through the hole then connect it to the kit with an adapter with a barbed fitting. I just let it drain overnight.

The crossbow im working on has the drain hoses coming off the bottem of the oil pans. So i just bought a new suction pump kit from the local marine store it only took three minnits to drain 6qts and didnt spill a drop.:)
