I'm thinking about putting and outdoor funiture store in a retail space I have available. My carpenters will be making my furniture for me. I'm trying to be resourceful with very talented guys in a slow housing market. Does anyone have something similar going on somewhere else?

My buddy tried it a few yrs ago. He was building very very nice teak outdoor furniture, trellis and such.
His wife was making the custom cushions and covers. Absolutly top class work !!!
Really nice hand made stuff !!

He was able to sell several custom items but it wasn't enough to make a living.

The stuff coming in from Malaysia and Philipines was less then 1/2 the $$$'s.
Most people couldn't tell the difference between factory and hand made !! :rolleyes:

Here is his quote;

The only better way I know to lose 2 million dollars is to build a restaurant, run it for a year, and then try to keep it open for another year, works every time.

At least your store front will be free.

If your around Lk Norman, there is a store front selling tables made from old barn wood. Exit 28 on I-77
They are next to the ABC store so at least there is traffic passing by.
You may want to stop by and see how the market is doing.

But it is the right time of yr to sell patio stuff. :beer:
