View Full Version : starter problem
purchased a new hi torx starter to replace the old massive gm starter could someone have any idea why the new starter wont fit was told there should be no problem could i be hitting the oil pan? i need to get a mirror in there. is a 1971 350 chevy block
One possible reason is there are two starter noses, to accommodate the two different flywheels on small blocks. The offset is a fair bit and if you don't know about it will make you crazy!!
what do i have to do go back to the old gm style

does yours have the billet aluminum mounting block?
does yours have the billet aluminum mounting block?
here is the picture of the one that wont fit
That is for the small diameter flywheel which my Tempest 300 engine had, the nose is much closer to the the block then the other style.
This link may be what you are facing!

Look at the location of the nose of this starter compared to yours.
