I was kicking around all of the places I have skied since I was a kid. I have not exactly been trying to set a record and have skied many of them several times. I have also passed on a number of other places simply because I was happy with my choice at the time. I am having drinks at the time as I prep for some St Patties day fun at the Moose so I may have left off a place of two. A number of these places stand out and I would gladly return.

So far JH takes the cake all around. Tomorrow Weasel and I are going over to knock off Grand Targee.

Here is my list:

1 Jackson Hole Wy
2 Squaw Valley Ca
3 Alpine Meadows Ca
4 Heavenly Ca/Nv
5 Northstar at Tahoe Ca

Thats quite the list.

Skiing is one of my favorite things. Here is my top 5

Jackson Hole
Squaw Valley
Alta
A-Basin
Crested Butte

These are all skiiers mountains. I don't ski like a local anymore but I still love it.

They are all great and different in their own way. I like different mountains on different occasions. I love the Champaign powder of Steamboat, floating through the dry fluff in Solitude when nobody is around, hammering down the great corn snow on Squaw on a 60 degree day and getting the crap scared out of me at Alta. JH just seems to have it all.

I know for sure I could not compare to the set-up John has but it is fun skiing here and some of the other provinces.........ANYBODY from the site is welcome up here and we will do our best to entertain.

Whistler is the place right now, due to the Olympics next year, my older brother runs one of the big hotels up there so we have a small "in"........

Glad to hear you are enjoying JH, at least try and get John's legs sore eh......? :biggrin.:

Considering the company your list is keeping, I take that as one hell of a nice compliment. Yes, JH is truley a special mountain.

I have skied my share of mountians in the US, and my list is about as long as yours. I chose to live here in large part because of the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. The whitewater, paragliding, boating, flyfishing, snowmobiling, rock climbing, mountain biking, horseback riding, hunting, and backpacking don't suck either.

Alright, tommorrow, Jackson Hole's other amazing resort, Grand Targhee, which gets more snow on average than any resort in the Rockies, 550 inches a year. Where Jackson is steep, Targhee is DEEP!

Now, who is up for next year?:biggrin.:

Has there ever been a Donzi ski gathering? I know some of you can probably ski as well as you can drive a Donzi.......

I like the idea of a ski gathering. There is already one in the works. And...like it of not...you have a great place.

Oh I can drive a boat wayyyy better than I can ski, I have skied 3 times, Once I took out a whole family, after I went blazin through there was Ski's, Poles, Bodys layin all over the mountain. One guy said "Look, see what I'm wearing??? Don't ski around me anymore" I laughed and picked up what was left of my ski's and poles and limped on down the mountain.

Yes, I remember you saying that. I'm not a skier, tried once and fell about a dozen times. Let out lots of expletives in front of kids that I am not proud of. I'll never ski again. Might try boarding but I doubt it. I visited Alyeska in the summer and took the tram ride up to look around. How does it stack up against the best ski resorts in the lower 48?

Hard to compare. The terrain is good, but it is a much smaller resort than JH at only 1000 acres. Mostly Japanese skiers.

I was there in January. Basically night skiing until 11:00 AM, then day skiing until about 2:00 PM, then night skiing again. Gets tons of snow, over 700 inches annually, but very very HEAVY snow.

The resturant, 7 Glaciers, on top was fantastic......

Alaskan's are a little strange......

Will be seeing the GM, Mark Weakland, in a couple of weeks in Keystone for a trade show.....

I grew up in Indiana. I took a skiing class as a PE credit in school. Somehow I don't think a couple weeks on the 'mountains' of south/central Indiana would qualify me to even look at a real ski run.

But I did get to drive through French Lick every week going to the class. That's gotta count for something. :biggrin.:

Of the 37 mountains I have skied - JH RulesI agree. I visited on a bad snow year and a lot of the steeper runs weren't open, but it was easy to see the potential. The black diamond runs were like most mountains double black.

You'd be fine. I think anyone can pick up skiing or boarding in about 6 hours, spread over two days, and achieve some level of competence to do what I like: cruising the blues and a few blacks, depending on the hill. I go for the Zen board ride.

Doing some running or something aerobic for a at least a few weeks helps a LOT. There is a lot less air up on a mountain, and it's 10x as tiring when you're first learning to board. Getting started on skis was a little easier if you ask me.

Ive skied some pretty steep stuff on Ajax. But i think the 3-4 bird's of prey at Beaver is the steepest i ever skied. Total leg burn - out day.

Grand Targee is on the list. One if the tops. Weasel and I had a great day on the mountain. We had some good grohlshe snow. Whatever that is.
