Should be a little more than one quart.

Make sure you clean out the reservoir.

Is that all? For some reason I thought it was quite a bit more?

Wish I could find where I put my Clymer's manual...

This link also talks about what I do, I take one quart of light oil and run it from the resevoir through the drive to flush any possible junk out cheap insurance.

If you must do what Phil suggests, I would use normal Merc drive lube.

This is what the repair houses do. You can't gaurentee getting all of the other crap out.

Thanks guys.

The range of answers is amazing.

Answer 1 = 1 qt
Answer 2 = 2-1/2 qt
Answer 3 = 3 to 4 qt

Guess I'll just buy 4 and if any is left over I'll put it on the shelf

Start the boat first and let idle in gear to warn up the drive fluid, you will get more out of it by running it and getting it hot..

most cases with a resivour it wil take 2.5 to 3 qts.

Ask what type of Oil to use? Just over 1 is what I have found. And I keep one in the boat.

It does depend on what year, which includes which type of reservoir and where it's mounted. I think the drive itself, to the vent plug would be 88oz? Big old round reservoirs mounted way out on the sides of the bilge took almost 3 qts.

I was talking with Matt and the one qt is for the Alpha's. Or just over one.

Buy three and you should be fine. Pump it in there like Shea.

I would pull the reservoir off and clean it for sure...
