Anyone here in Freeport, or going to be there next week?

Looks like I'm going to be there Wed-Friday and could use a drinking partner ;)

Sure no problem - that's only a few miles up the river from me!

What? You weren't talking about Freeport, CA? on the Sacramento River? It's a happenin' place...

Last time I was in Freeport was on my honeymoon in 1986. We both hated being there, so I chartered a flight back to FTL, got in the car, and spent a week in the keys.

Actually Don, the Bahamas ;), but I do have family in the Sacramento area,... next time I'm there (probably next year some time), I'll look you up :D

Joe,

I'd MUCH rather be in the Keys than Freeport, but as far as business goes, there is worse things than having to travel to Freeport lol.

Nassau is too touristy, Freeport is,..... well Freeport. Put me on Andros, and I'm a happy camper ;)

For those that don't know what freeport is like, Go to your towns MLK (Martin luther King) Boulevard, pretend it's surrounded by water and everyone tries to have 1/2 a Jamacian accent and sell you conch chowder:yes: Oh, One good thing, it's usually sunny and the fish is fresh.

Yup, Freeport is just a dirty city, unless you at the Lucayan Casino.:biggrin.:

I've stayed at Lucaya, and it's a nice place, but honestly, I prefer "Freeport Yacht Club" right across the road,... not nearly as nice by any means, but I really REALLY dislike the casino hotels. FYC reminds me of the little 2 story motels on the beach on the gulf :)

Well, then there's Freeport, TX where I spent the first six years of my life. I know Harbor Master and Jefe like to fish from there but that's different from living there in the '40's.
Take a small, sleepy little fishing town probably 2000 people in about '45 and have Dow Chemical build a VERY large chemical plant and bring in thousands of people to work there. Folks had no place to live. By 1950 it had some of the earmarks of a FEMA mobile home park.
It never has been, or never will be a glamorous Gulf Coast resort city.....more of a Gulf Coast petrochemical center.

I had a building lot in Lucaya bought sight unseen, when I saw it I dumped it. Some real nice spots but a lot of krapy spots to, plus to many undesirables roaming around.

You see that? .. You people are tragically mislead on the REAL Freeport. I'm talkin Freeport, Maine. That's up north..(it's still cold up there)....and it's the home of L.L.Bean. Some people just don't know where to go on their time off..........:biggrin.: John
