OK, on the 22 Classics it seems that around 2003 and earlier models had single ram tabs, then they went to dual ram tabs but the '08s and '09s seem to be back to single rams. What is up with that?

I dunno. Those duals are slow. Anyone want to buy a pair. Red powder coated. I am going to Kplanes

Carl,

I don't think there was a standard i think it is more an option and how the boat was ordered by the dealer/buyer, most 40th ann 22's had the 496ho and dual ram option as well as the yellow color scheme but there was one red and white one that was ordered with 6.2 and single rams

Mine came with the dual rams and they are slow. I figured they went to the dual rams for increased strength since these boats keep getting faster. Kind of surprised to see them shipping with single rams again.

My 1996 has dual and they are totally unneeded/silly. More holes in the transom, in the way for steering systems, slow. Single are better.

Carl. run 24 volts to the pump and you tab speed will increase. Pump wont last as long but.............or run two pumps, one for each set of rams.

The pump for the 2 ram system looks to be the same pump for the 4 ram system. Feeding twice the number of cylinders with the same volume pump, half as fast.

I'm OK with the speed but I have to drop the port tab for 5 seconds before planing out to keep the boat level. Then I can ease the tab up along with the drive. Maybe if I'd had faster tabs in the past I'd feel different but this is my first boat with them.

My 22 came with single ram 12x9 Trimmasters. Trimmasters have a shear pin to prevent damage to the rams. I broke the pin a couple of times during spirited driving.

Decided to upgrade to 12x12 dual ram tabs. I like them much better. Last night we had to run 18 miles in a moderate chop. Dropped the bow down and reduced speed to 25MPH and had a nice ride back to the "Hill".

Due to the extra length, the 12x12 w/dual rams adjust trim of the 22 at the same speed as the 12x9 single ram.

Single ram is 496 Mag.

Twin ram is 496HO.

I went through the classified section and that does seem to be the case. I think I need the dual rams for the Great Lakes.

Got singles on my 18 that I use on LOTO with no problems and they are very responsive, my dad has dual rams on his boat and SLOW to respond. Steve

What I meant is that I have the dual rams and I think I need them for the rough waters I sometimes have to run. Todd has explained why I see singles on some of the newer 22Cs, less power. I can run fast in 2-3 footers with a little tab. I imagine those things take quite a bit of force sometimes.:eek:

Yep, that looks about right.
Except for leaky actuators, I have gotten good service out of my dual actuator Trimmaster Sport Tabs. I upgraded with a kit and could use the same holes for one of the actuators (per side) and ended up with some spare parts (pump)
BUT
I am a Bennett guy. They build a great "Sport Tab" system and their customer service is the BEST!!!!!!

Very interesting! I appreciate all of the pics. I haven't been able to hurt my stock trim ram bennetts yet and their customer service is the best. They sent a free reservoir cover when mine cracked.
