I am going to look at a used 2003 silverado 1500hd with the 6.0 engine in it tomorrow and had a quick question for all you GM gurus. It is listed at 300HP i see several versions of this engine at 325HP and 345HP is it just a different programing on the computer or is there different hardware. also what does it take to bump it up just a flash of the computer or parts swap?

the 1500HD is really a 2500.....

the 2003 6.0 is a pretty darn good engine, especially with 4.10 gears.... i'd leave it alone ECM wise except for a CAI and exhaust work...

I've got the 5.3 with 3.73 ratio. A friend has the 6.0 with 4.10's.

I've used his. Except for an exhaust upgrade, his is stock.

My next one will be a 6.0 with 4.10's.

The extra snot helps, a lot.

The base 6.0 is the LQ4-300hp, the SS silverados and VHO's get the LQ9 which is 345hp. the lq4 is 9.1 compression, the lq9 is 10.1 compression and needs premium fuel.

The base 6.0 lq4 is a very capable engine, what makes it seem like a puzz is torque managment. when you stomp the gas to do a burnout the computer say's NOPE and pulls out enough timing to stop the wheels from spinning faster than the trucks speed. I have the same truck & Motor, any mod you ever want to do I probably already did and know that truck in & out, top to bottom, any more questions just ask.

Oh, and I don't have torque managment anymore:newzealand:

thanks for the input its got 3.73 gears with the g80 limited slip rear end. going to test drive it tomorrow. BlownCrewCab how did you turn the torque managment and what do you feel was your best bang for the buck power mod you did?

I did Headers, Electric fans, Cold air intake, Pretty much every bolt on possible, each one helps a little. I was going to trade it in on an STI (Subaru) and my wife was going to get a truck (for the farm) we'll she got a saturn aura so I made my truck run like the Sti by putting the blower on it. it's going on 24 months and I have never had one problem (other than rear tires)

You can buy a handheld programmer that will let you remove some TQ management, but the biggest difference is the way it shifts. If you decide to you want to remove more of the t/m a custom tune is in order and is probably the best bang for the buck (other than 4k+ for a supercharger).

Torque management and the taller 1st gear of the 4L80E make the 6.0L feel like a dog. A custom tune ($250) will probably be the best bang for the buck. Add CAI, electric fans and long tube headers after that.

I have recently bought a 2005 Escalade ESV Platinum with AWD and the 6.0L/345HP. I AM IMPRESSED witht the performance. I have been using the low octane gas and the mileage has been impressive also, and have tried the high octane and my mileage dropped considerably.
