Anone here ever cut a large inspection hole and fab a plate for cleaning the tank? I was thing of trying this as opposed to removing the deck. Its a 1970 7 meter with what looks to be a 80 gal. in front and a 40 gallon in the rear. Both are caked with unsightly scum and debris. Cost and time were my motivation.I'd like to use the boat this spring. Also I read a archive thread with Brownie stating these steel tanks are lead coated. Wondering if epoxy would stick if I find any holes.Although I doubt this because theve been full for 18+ yrs! Another thought I had was foaming in a slighty smaller poly tank inside the steel tanks.

While I can't say I've ever done it, it's not a new idea. Here's a link to the parts to make it happen:

This is something I thought might be useful for me and I did some looking on their site. FWIW, looks like they are emphatic about it being used for diesel tanks but never for gas, at least for some of it. I didn't dig very deep.

vrod02, just make sure the backing rings and gaskets are ethanol compatible.
