I'm a little confused......

The first post talks about a theory that the current adminstration has said "It is not and will not be the policy of the Obama administration,"

The second post says that the quoted website is well respected. Well respected by who?
The people on their sister site http://www.familyfacts.org/topten.cfm ???

This is more of the same political bullsh!t being posted under the guise of Economic problems/solutions.

Why don't we just re-open the Political Section, and dump all this crap in there.

Mandatory gps in all vehicles has a lot deeper implications than telling how many miles we drive. They would know where we are at any time. How fast we drive etc. I would find a way to take that sunabich out every time I took a road trip or some way to jam it. I think I would prefer that because with my tekkie friends I would find a way to defeat it. That is bullsht. This administration will try to force us all to drive puddle jumpers.

Howard, when I see an economic post that hails the cut and pasted link as "well respected" I expect to see some FINANCIAL back up if I research the link.

I have no feelings one way or the other on the religious right wing sister site, but it doesn't support the economic arguement put forth.

That's all I was saying.

How about in the garbage can?

Let's worry about something else that is not going to happen.

Oh speaking of something that has been posted here that is not going to happen, at least not coming from the office of O, the Fairness Doctorine was shot down by the man himself as of this week.

What to worry about next???

As for the GPS mileage concept, the insurance companies have been kicking around tiered pricing by miles driven for quite some time now. I would take advantage of it, because I have vehicles, like my tow vehicle, that don't get driven that much, but I pay full tier pricing for them.

Now back to your normal finger nail biting.

Boxy do not think your alone in the confused department, The politicians are in the same boat. Their problem is they believe the last thing that they hear that day. The problem is that Nancy Pelosi is the last thing they hear, because she is always talking and not thinking.
As for the GPS thing, being in the auto manufacturing area it is much more involved than mileage, its speed and tracking tickets etc. They are trying to mandate it on all cars. Big brother is watching. Looks like my Mach1 will be auto of choice in future driving.

Grizz, I know that you know about these things in cars today, having come from the industry, but where are you reading that additional functionality is on someone's agenda? All I have seen so far is the last few seconds recording for accident investigation and diagnostics stuff. No more, and even this garbage doesn't work very well.

And for the chicken little and vast left wing conspiracy crowd, none of this stuff is GPS driven, so keep cutting and pasting your latest finds...

Oh, and forget the solutions(it would be nice) as I know this is probably beyond your current mindsets. How about a little original thought from between the left and right ear and a little credibility and fact check, before the big old garbage dump here???

Your resident socialist...

Fair enough, and although I despise the phrase, it was "my bad". In all honesty, I'm extremely confused these days with this whole mess and I didn't have anything intelligent to say. :bonk:

In Ontario, our Insurance Companies already use a modifed version of your proposal.
Each time I buy my yearly registration I have to provide the MoT (Ministry of Transport) the current odometer reading of my car.

My Bullitt is insured based on the following criteria....
Class 01 - Operator age 25 or greater, pleasure use only, no commuting to and from work, school, or transit station, not driven more than 16,000 km annually.

When I got my new registration in January my odometer read 11,800 km, I'm not sure what would happen if I am involved in an accident in July and the odometer reads 29,000 km, but I will find out Monday.

My wife's SRX is insured with a much less restrictive policy, but if I used the same criteria as she does, my vehicle choice would drastically increase my premiums.

Actually it was in a meeting with some of the engineering and legal staff. It was about future recommendations from the Government. I do not know weather it was from Feds or California. It all had to do with including the GPS and/or electric Compass in the new cars and get this Motorcycles. Not today but in the future how much future We don't know. So all the makers are dragging their feet, because of cost of design. at this time we as everyone else is concentrating on fleet average. Byt I can tell you this it is being considered.

I live in Rhode Island. We have to have our vehicles Safety Inspected every two years. Vehicles newer than 1996 have an OBD-II plug under the dash. In addition to the usual stuff like checking to see if the lights work.. a scanner is plugged into the OBD plug to see if your emissions have been within limits.

During this inspection, a readout sheet is generated by the computer that records everything they want to know about the vehicle...including MILEAGE. You get a copy, and the state gets a copy. The technology is Already In Your Car for WHEN ever the state wants to avail themselves of the data. No GPS Required. :bonk: Just Sayin...

BTW: If your vehicle is older than 1996, it is put on a dyno/treadmill and with a sniffer up the tailpipe..generating the same report for the state. The inspecting individual just enters the mileage manually. John

John, you're right, there will be no need for GPS's to track mileage, just make odometer readings part of the registration process.
We have an E-Test requirement here every 2 years also, if the vehicle is 5 years older, or older....

In Rhode Island.. We start inspections TWO years after the NEW car is purchased. I just had my '07 Taco inspected. John

In Texas, they inspect every year. No emissions or milage checks.

I would go for a mileage based insurance. It would help out with the newer cars hardly driven. I doubt anything would change for the classics.
