Okay, so I got a horn, it blows (not the driver), but sounds real weak. While I am doing my winter upgrades, gotta give some attention to this wussie sounding horn. I do not want to put on some big honkin' bastard that is as gawdy as me, but something concealed that has a good tone to it (good bass tone would be nice). Any suggestions and where to get it would be greatly apreciated as always. thanx,

tom

I always liked this horn - it would fit the ZX perfectly -

With all this talk lately about Retractible Cleats and Running Lights..I wonder if there is such a thing as Retractible Horns. I'm kinda partial to the Road Horns on an 18 wheeler. John

http://www.autobarn.com/images/miva/wolo/sounds/430.au That's funny. I was going to put a "dixie" horn in my boat but couldn't find a good one. The stock horn is a joke; Just makes the boat legal. If you really need a loud horn I'd go with an air horn, either fixed or hand held.

Put it under your deck - http://www.autobarn.net/dukes-of-hazzard-general-lee-dixie-car-horn.html

Just piling on--curious if anyone knows any that are REALLY LOUD, such that mounting belowdecks cuts them down only to LOUD.

I have a single AFI trumpet horn which was mounted on the hardtop (when there was one) of my boat. When I rewired evertything last year after the hardtop went away, I mounted the horn up in the bow, below the deck. It's as loud or louder than the factory concealed horn was on my Cobalt, but it ain't what I'd call loud.

I just can't help myself...

Still coming South in March, Tom?

You bring your horn and I'll get out the Donzi Les Paul and Marshall Amp!

Those videos are hilarious. BTW, if folks are trying to figure out what is actually scaring the people, take a look at some of this hardware.

The guy collects and plays with Diesel railroad horns. And here are the things themselves:

All of which brings me back to the question, does anyone know/love any really loud marine horns that will do well under the deck? I've shopped a LOT of them on the net, and nothing sold me on replacing the AFI trumpet I have already.

The best horn I've used was on our old Formula 34 PC. it had a horn that had a remote air compressor. The only connection to the horn was a small hose... the little compressor was remote mounted.

man, that thing rocked for sound.

The only horn that will make a ton of sound is one that has a clear line of sight in front of it... with that said, if you don't want to mount one exposed, bring a portable air horn with you. If you don't mind if it's exposed, get an air powered one over a straight electric one.

I think that you should use a horn and PA system both. That way you can really piss people off in a number of ways. :pimp: At least that is what I am putting in Roller Girl.:kingme:

I can see it now.....the big ZX coming by, a bunch of engine noise, Tom blasting the horn and harassing people on the PA system......WTF Was That! Perfect

OK for sound but the best thing is you don’t see them.

There is a horn and bow light there if you can find them.

I learned about horns when I worked at Tiara. On the 52 (perhaps more now) they used Kahlenberg horns. Top shelf, EXTREMELY loud, but not real stealthy.

I was thinkin' like 4-note cadillac horns, but concealed. Maybe I could stick them up in the bow locker, what do you guys think? Trains horns could be cool (even though I'm a Big Truck fan, r ya with me John?), but I don't want to run an air compressor in the boat.

Dukes of Hazard, nice one Tim, but......no!

F_in, I think that is the stock horn that I already have, or do they sell those in different notes?

Barry, still plannin on comin' down, but I aint bringin a french horn!

I already yell out at all the parked boats when I see a firework I like, Bill. That's why Barbi wants me to replace the 'wussie' horn!

I have a portable air horn (horn-in-a-can), but it scares the sh!t out of everybody when I use it!

Hey Mike, I can't hear the video, but it looks a little complicated.

That Hornblaster thing looks interesting.

Maybe I'll just keep yelling 'HEY' or play this song on the stereo (provided the attachment made it on here "I'm On A Boat")

many thanx to everyone, keep'm comin',

tom

Fwiw, the compressor to run most marine air horns is very small. Not much bigger than a can of your favorite adult beverage.

Thanx Don. Maybe I'll have my stereo guy look into that this spring when I have him do some upgrades. That could maybe support the effect I am lookin for. Although, caddy horns are all electric.......oh I don't know:nilly:

Denise doesn't use the horn on her Caddy, she'll never miss it, hitting the deer back in November made me aware of that!

We used to have a Buick Park Avenue that also had the 4 note horn. Check salvage yards, they should be plentiful. If you mounted them in the area where the hole already exists for the current horn, it just might work. Leave the horn grille in place, some of the sound should come through.

See ya in Gulf Shores soon!
