View Full Version : Need Z-33 hull.... it's not funny!

Oh crap! My gelcoat was beautiful, and so was the interior...BUT...under the thick factory fiberglass the plywood was wet and de-laminating. In short 30K of glass and wood work for an $8000 hull. I'm screwed.

Suggestions, commiserations and good natured ribbing welcome.

Can somebody find me a good dry hull?

That may be hard to do. Are you just talking about the stringers and transom?

What cost 30k?

Charlie Wilson at Glaspro in Tampa told me last night that the transom, aft port and starboard stringers, and the bulkhead were not the only thing that was wasted. (Donzigo was kind enough to go out and be my eyes, and saw these problems as well.) The big problem was this:

The fore stringers- all three had worked loose from the hull, and as the boat was under power (1,100 HP of it) the hull was flexing both laterally and vertically. Apparently all the wood was black mush under the 'glass, and the wood had been wet for some time.

Charlie thinks that at $50/hr plus parts it looks like 20-30K to fix right.

I had the boat surveyed by Captain Tony llc in Holland OH prior to purchase. NONE of this was "found" in the report. I may have a claim.

I would certainly be giving the captain a call!

If you would like I can call my guy back and get a quote for you. I need to understand more of how far forward the damage is. email me some pictures if you have them. Or I think you already had my numbers. If not send me a PM.

This guy already rebuilt our 29 and it has been bullet proof.

I thought we already went thru this.

Like I said in the past. The amount of money it takes to rebuild a 29/33 it better spent on buying a newer 28ZX. I do love the lines of the Z boats!

Is it just me or does that trailer look about 4' too small with the axles way to far forward?

Actually, I find the boat pretty interesting. I'm not looking for anything like that but if I were this would be worth further inspection.

How fast do we think a Z33 would run with 600's and Bravos?

I was thinking more along the lines of 72-75 at best. They are pretty heavy, no?

There is a guy that posts some here. He has a set of built 502's. His runs in the 80's. I will see if I can find a link.
