Well the tank had hundreds of pin holes after all.... The welder is fabricating my new one for 600.00 cash. It will be back in the boat by next Saturday and ready for the Keys run on the 14th. Thanks to all of your advice for taking the deck off.

There's a bunch of folks around here who should pay attention to your experience.

I got in touch with them and it wasn't anywhere near $500. I don't know if the price went up, or what the deal was, but I think it was $1200 (straight memory)

I would do just about anything before taking the deck off. Re-line, new, multiple smaller tank(s) somewhere else. Sounds like a hellish job.

It really isn't bad. I've always taken my time pulling the deck, but if you did a lot of prep work, you could pull the deck and change the tank all in one day. Also, I've always done it by myself.

Of course, while you have it off, it would be dumb not to take advantage of it and doing everything else you want to do.

just a note here,

i am not sure of the status of this boat, or your intentions with it down the road, the one thing to watch for with a custom tank is that can this welder attach the tag that makes it an approved tank. if the boat is surveyed for insurance replacement value and it doesn't have a tag no insurance or if god forbid something worse and the tank is found to be not an approved it could get ugly

if it is a classic tank either rds or fmt have them
