All right. The dates have been set. August 6-9 2009.
The hotel has blocked off rooms for us. I will post the contact information Monday from my office computer.
We are moving to a new host facility this year. Due to Pirates Weekend in ABay the Edgewood would not hold any rooms or dock space for us.
The North east Donzi Club is pleased to announce that the Sound of Thunder's new home is original site of the 1000 Islands Poker Run ..... Gananoque Ontario (http://www.gananoque.com/)
Our host Hotel will be the new Holiday Inn Select (http://www.holidayinnexpress1000islands.com/)in Downtown Gananoque, our host Marina will be the Gananoque Municipal Marina (http://www.gananoque.com/GMM/index.html).
Our main sponsor is the Gananoque Casino (http://www.gananoque.com/casino/index.html).
I will post contact information for both the Hotel and the Marina early next week.
Gananoque is about 20 minutes from the new home of the 1000 Islands Poker Run, Kingston Ontario, and we are working with the Casino to arrange a shuttle bus for Friday evening to take us to Kingston to view the boats, and enjoy a few local beverages, with out having to worry about boating or driving back to Gananoque.
One of the main reasons for the venue change, besides the inability to block rooms in Abay, and the general problems of running nice boats through the harbour during Pirates Weekend, is that by crossing the Border once, and holding the event in Canada, we now have multiple locations which we can boat to, and not worry about going ashore, or docking. We can now visit the towns of Kingston, Gananoque, Ivy Lea, Rockport, and Brockville without having to worry about Customs. We can still boat on the same water we always have, but now there will be many more options available to us.
Crossing the Border is easy, the MI guys do it 4 times every year they come to Alex Bay .... :D
Post any questions you have here, or send me a PM.
It is going to be epic. Hey we might even convince Shea to organize a side trip to the local Canadian Tire ....:pimp:

West Lake

Its the opposite side of the county from Picton
That would have to be another trip as it would be probably 2 hours from kingston out into the Lake (Ontario)

This looks like a very interesting event with a lot of potential.
I hope all of you have a very good time.
Unfortunately Elaine and I can't make it this year.

I do have one comment though.........
The name of your sponser seems like an oxymoron.

After speaking to the host Hotel, and talking to the one person who has booked a room we have unfortunately decided to call off the Gananoque event for this year. I will still be up there for most of the summer and I will be happy to show anyone around if you decide to stop by.

George, while "sponsor" does seem like an oxymoron when linking it to a Casino, all they were doing for us was supplying a shuttle to get us to Kingston and back on the Friday evening of the Poker Run with the hope that we might stop by sometime during the weekend.

I will be there on this weekend if anyone still wants to come up

I will be staying in downtown alexandria bay on a cruiser at the main dock :boat:

if you are looking you will find me

there are alot of hotels in the area both on the canadian side and the american side but you should book early as this area packs up on this weekend

if you have not seen the poker run boats in the 1000 islands you do not know what you are missing as well as the festivities that go along with it:lifeprese:

its too bad Steve I know you were hoping for a good turn out

I will be looking for you

Steve;
It's the "Charity Casino" name I find amusing.
I'm sure that some of the casino profits goes to a charity, but just reading it sounds like a casino for gambling abusers. Or a casino you go to where money is given out.

George here is some information from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Website ......

http://www.olg.ca/about/economic_benefits/index.jsp

Ever wonder where the money goes? OLG generates $3.7* billion annually in economic activity in Ontario.

Contribution to the Province ($1.8 Billion) includes provincial investment in:

-Gaming proceeds distributed through the Ontario Trillium Foundation to local and provincial charities $105 million
-Support for amateur athletes through the Quest for Gold program $10 million
-Hospitals, health related programs and other provincial priorities $1.7 billion

Corporate Responsibility ($53 Million)includes:

-Partnering in the education, research, prevention and treatment of problem gambling $44 million
-Sponsorship of community and local music events $1.2 million
-Proceeds from Electronic Bingo to participating local charities $7.3 million

Support for Local Economies ($1.8 Billion) includes:

-Goods and services purchased from local Ontario businesses $142 million
-Payroll for 7,700 employees at OLG Facilities $406 million
-Payroll for 11,400 employees at OLG's Resort Casino Partners $537 million
-Payments to municipalities that host OLG gaming facilities $115 million
-Payments to Ontario's horse racing industry $336 million

In addition, OLG awarded over $1.6 billion in prizes last year to our players.

All of the Casino's in Ontario are managed by the OLG, and the 1000 Islands Casino has been a great addition to an area that has lost many mfg jobs in the last 10-15 years.

nothing wrong with running the 22 its just that this is always a weekend where i have a group of buddies with me and it is difficult to sleep like 8 guys in a 22

not impossible, just not as comfy :bighug:

we will probably have a big pontoon boat there for the weekend too with a slide and whatnot

Between Ken And I it looks like at least six boats will be up at 1K, if we play it up a bit a few more will probably show. Rooms are scarce in Abay but Ken and I know a few other reasonable close spots that we can help to find for those that may be interested. Most of the crew will be on the Canadian side though it looks like Shea will be in Abay, so a bit of boat riding here and there I am sure we can have lunch, watch the poker run and enjoy each others company. For those that may be interested let Ken, Boxy and Me know, we can get things figured out.

Like Boxy pointed out it is a very busy weekend up there, it is Pirates weekend and also the running of I believe the biggest and baddest poker run of the year. The do the poker run in stages so it is real hard to miss the action, "MyWay" a twin turbine boat is the master. Not sure how true but some have mentioned it will top 200, Ken and I watched effortlessly walk by the pack. At Brockville there is time for lunch or if you have had enough more views of the area.

From the emails and chat the count is getting a bit better, looking forward to the river. a reminder to the Yanks that are coming bring your passports. We will be doing a bit more on the Canadian side this year, the Blue Boys say it is about time!

190 for My Way - there apparently is another cat up there over 200 so My Way will be getting upgrades for next year. Have any of you guys seen those summer homes behind Wellesly, They are rediculous.

boxy
07-12-2009, 08:18 AM
AquaMania's Mystic Turbine ran 204.5 mph on the Sunday after the Abay Poker Run. Cleared course, chase boats, and safety divers.
MyWay has run 187 mph, but I'm not sure what else they can do to find another 15+ mph. I think the Mystic hull is just faster than the OL cat.

Not to sure where on the River I will be that weekend, but if I'm not in Kingston, then I will catch up with the crew.

MOP

Steve Kenny and I watched up river for awhile when they passed we ran up to Brockville where they stop for lunch, then they run up to the bridge by Ogdensburg and come back. It gives you the opportunity to see the field run three times. It was a good run last year, Ken even got to push a rope!

boxy
07-12-2009, 09:07 AM
If I am not navigating in the run, then I will probably be bouncing between the 40 acres, the Canadian Bridge, and Lake of the Isles.... :nilly::nilly:

The 40 acres is a great vantage point, lots of room, and flat out running.
If I had to choose one spot, my favorite would be just West of Singer Island. They will be flat out past there, then it's a short run to Brockville, where after lunch, you can watch the only full field start in the run.

MOP
07-12-2009, 09:20 AM
I anchor at the northern tip of Singer tucked in where I feel pretty safe, when they finish going by I am very close to my buddies island. Gives us a chance to grab lunch before the run up to Brockville, will try to drag some of the Blue Boys along this year!!!

Our group will we be spread out a bit this year, about 50/50 US/Canada! Looks like more boats and folks this year then last, due to the split group we need to exchange cell numbers. I have most of the regulars already but it would be good to PM your numbers to Kenny(Chachi) or me (MOP) and also a some of the Canadian guys. On the US side it is good to hook up with Ken Or Me as we both know our way around, there are some great places to go and some good places to stay clear of. Ken I know of a couple of places that most have no idea exist, have no fear of inclement weather the area has tons to offer even if it is crappy out!

Anyway get the phone numbers moving around

Don't forget your passports for both sides, if you don't have one you will be going sight seeing when we do stops here and there!

Great time with great people, place gets better every year! Finally got to meet Mr. Boilerman face to face and see his blown Critter, I'll let him elaborate on his fine vessel. Chachi and I will be up here for the rest of the week, still some good running to do! Need a day or two to catch up from all the chowing down, a Little Q time on the island will take care of that. Hanging out and feeding the local critters is some relaxing!

Steve I thought I saw you run by us during the poker run, we were just up river from Singer then up by Brockville narrows for the return run. MY WAY blasted close by us coming back!

I on borrowed wireless off island!
