In his dreams! What the hell is wrong with people today? Wishing your Donzi does 65 doesn't mean it will.

Well it all depends on how much HP your pick-up has.

Whenever I see a ridiculous sales claim like this - be it top speed or economy or range or whatever, I always want to make an offer with a strict contingency of the vehicle meeting exactly the stated criteria or the seller has to not only resend the deal but reimburse me for my expenses.

I never follow through of course, I just fantasize about making the seller sweat.

Think of the fun you could have....

I'm surprized I've never seen it. I live about a half mile from the boat launch on the St John's. The picture must not be on the river, or it would have floating docks. The river is down over 8 feet since October.

He Probably saw it on non gps water psi speedo once.. I have seen on occasion with 4.3 alpha & the right prop running on fumes with the wind to your back hit about 60. But 65.. I also doubt it..

I did it one day on 2 or 3 passes. I dont remember the drive ratio, but I think the prop I had on was a 25 Attwood ballistic. It took a lil to get her planed & it was just me in the boat. My azz was also a bit lighter then compared to now..

Most non-real boaters don't know the difference.

Yes, its kind of rediculous.

My salesman at Pier 57 told me my new 22C would go 72. I took that with a grain of salt and hoped for 70. To my surprise I was hitting 73.5 easily after breaking it in. Just one more reason why I have a lot of respect for Pier 57.

anyone who buys a boat souly on speed claims deserves what they get, yeah one day on a good run the speedo was bouncing past 60 and there ya have it.
just tell em you want 500 bucks off for every mph it runs less than 65 in your sea trial . I have learned to trust myself and put no weight in what any body else has to say in an ad to try and sell a boat.

Matty I actually did that when I bough My Criterion. They would not take the offer.

It says "capable of 65mph." I imagine there is Donzi literature that indicates the same. Yes, there is some small detail about which power plant is required for that speed, but the boat is still "capable."

So how many have contaced the seller to tell him he's lying about his speed claim?

alot depends on the buyer

the guy who bought my 16 had no interest in the fact that it was a well documented holman moody boat or that it was an older classic or that the tank was replaced all he wanted to know if it was fast. so on a cold april day i proceeded to give him his sea trial put the this vest on i don't care if you don't normally wear one hold onto the grab rail and then gave him the ride of his life. i told him you can drive no more than 3/4 throttle and don'r romp on it or will will be swimming, he proceeded not to listen scared himself and said it is fast enough and forked over the money before we got back to the dock. so a buyer like that might be disappointed if they buy into the ad and then some just look at the boat and it's condition and see what it might be possible of some day

Btw the new owner of my boat has had some run ins with the lake patrol

What ever happened to the Coasties? I was observed once going 40 through The Arm when I was too young to know better. I got a verbal warning. John

So this is the response I got to a straight forward question about the quoted speed.........

Dear loulash,

I said the boat is capable of going 65 mph! It goes 55 to 58 effortlessly to do 65 it would need a diffrent prop. I am reluctant to even reply to someone as rude as you. You are the first person whom we would never deal with due to your lack of social graces.

What the hell? How did you phrase the question? What an a$$hole. First he post a boat for sell with BS speed info, then when asked about it, he sends that reply? What prop will push it to 65? THERE ISN'T ONE!!!!!

Gonna ask him the same thing, see what he says.

Sent him this, lets see what he says-

Very nice Donzi! I am very interested. Was wondering if I could ask you a few questions about the speed posted. What prop are you running and what RPM's at 65 mph? My buddy has one and can't seem to get it about 57 mph with the 220 hp 4.3L. Would love to show up with this boat and see the expression on his face whan I go by him at 65 mph! Thank you.

John

Matty, I think that is kinda sad. You obvioulsy put a lot of time and money into the boat and it has an great history. Maybe the buyer will realize what a unique and nicely restored boat he has and appreciate it for what it is, not how fast it goes. Oh well, to each his own.

Got a reply-

Free free to call Wayne at 386 738 1237. My boat runs approx. 57 to 58 mph tops with the stock prop, like your friends does. At a boat show I saw a Donzi like mine with a smaller racing prop that was hitting 64, that is why I said the boat is capable of 65 mph. He also had done some tuning and was about 30 years younger then me! Mine is about 5500 rpm tops, but frankly, I never run it at that rpm as that is too fast for me.

- teapee46

Smaller racing prop and he is already at 5500 RPM's on the stock one????? Max RPM per Mercruiser is 4800. Just another BS ad.

From the sound of his reply, I'll bet it's the boat dealer on 15-A. He will never win the Miss Congeniality Award.

So it didn't sell AGAIN..........he lowered the price and removed the line about, "capable of over 65mph"............

One thing I don't get is that it appears it sold for $13,605 in the first auction???? He now has a Buy It Now price of $12,800...........what gives??????????

That line is still there...but the Q and A about the claim is not. ;)

Edit: I guess the line has been removed in the most recent auction. The auction I linked in the "it's back" post above has ended early and was relisted. This is very strange.
