brought back some not so pleasant memories when i heard about it

but this one ended much better, amazing with the water temps and the air temps never mind the currents that the plane stayed afloat for so long and the rescue teams could get everyone off

GOD BLESS the crew and passengers and all the rescue teams

Just read the news report online.
Amazing result to what could have been a very tragic accident.

reports say it hit a flock of birds disabling both engines, leaving laguardia gliding over the bronx, and upper manhattan over the GW bridge landing on the hudson around 57th street, basically gliding over some of the most populated real estate on the planet, the outcome could have been tragic

I hear there were 20 VIP's from Bank of America on that flight. The last time something like that happened it was right before MBNA sold out. (A week or two before MBNA sold out 6 VIP's from the company were in a helicopter crash in NYC. All survived). I hope the big bank insn't going under.(stock price is about $8 these days)

The news story's mentioned the air temp was 20*. This LOW temp actually helps with aircraft LIFT.....a plus in this type scenario. The pilots did a superb job. In a "normal" ditch situation, the landing gear would be UP....BUT the engines hanging down below the wings would have "Tripped" the plane and ended up in a "Pitchpole"......end over end. This time things went well.

ABC News said the pilot walked the plane twice to make sure the cabin was empty before he left..

I used to see F-4's take off from Udorn Thailand
when those afterburners kicked in
you would see living proof
that even a brick will fly
with enough horsepower

This is an RF-4C from one of the Tactical Reconnaissance Squadrons assigned to the 432nd Tactical Fighter/Reconnaissance Wing (432 TFRW). This was the only wing of its kind in Southeast Asia. The 432nd was made up of two RF-4C tactical recce squadrons, the 11th and 14th TRS and two F-4D tactical fighter squadrons, the 13th and 555th TFS. The 13th was credited with 2 MIG kills while at Udorn, the 555th, with 7 MIG kills while at Udorn

There were a bunch of Bank of America folks on that plane. As of 1/1, I work for BAC, so I'm kinda in the know on that piece. They're all going to be OK.

Sounds like the pilot did a heck of a job. Kind of like Al Haynes did to bring that plane down in Sioux City.

There's gotta be video of the water landing. Lots of people in NYC with cell phone cams. Plenty of tourists out on boats site seeing with their vid cameras. It'll probably emerge in a few days after they sell it to CNN for $$$$$.
