what hp?

385 at the propshaft. This boat is the carburated twin to my red/white 7.4GSi package. True "rides on rails" handling, good pull through all ranges, and a top speed as indicated in my sig line. The blue boat has a standard Volvo DuoProp as opposed to my DPX. The outdrive and fuel-injection differences would lower the top speed some...

PM's are welcome, if anyone wants to discuss this model's attributes and/or value.

Tony, I think this boat is MPI.

Tony I feel you are not on target with either statement, power should be very close if not the same. The standard dou lower has a slightly smaller profile then your beefier drive so in fact the boat may be a tad faster but lacking the hyd steering.

The internal hydraulic steering is what makes this package special, however. Driving a 22 with one is a fantastic experience. The DPX makes the boat, IMHO.

The dou's make a great difference in any boat and most do not require hyd steering due to the neutral pull of the drive.

so this DPX boat has Volvo internal hyd. steering?

tony's is a DPX with internal hyd. The ebay boat (which has been listed before) has a std duo prop, no internal hyd steer.

I still haven't gotten 100% confirmation that these Volvos used large oval heads/intake versus Merc's rect setup.

Phil, are you sure the standard Volvo duo has a smaller profile? My understanding is that the DPX had a more streamlined profile, intended for higher hp and racing, in addition to the beefier internals.

My fault for calling the engine carburated. What would be the difference, though, between a 7.4G and a 7.4GSi...horsepower?...makeup?

this should help
as i understand it it is like the merc 454 offerings a low, medium and high HP rating

the GI would be med. and the GSI would be high it shows the GI at 360 hp and yours at 405 hp

here is their engine database

just type in the motor or number of CYL's

Nice link, Matty, thanks. Both were produced from 1994 - 2000, with these differences;

7.4GSi 405 hp 4600 max. rpm's
7.4 Gi 360 hp 4400 max. rpm's

My boat spins 5,000 rpm's but that is probably because I have the highest-pitched prop set available for the DPX drive.
Other information I have read puts my hp at 385 at the propshaft.

Matty, I see you edited your post to include the stats I just posted.
We must have been browsing the site at the same time!

it's a Gi the regular duo is the cobra sx housing the dpx is a totally different housing i would also think the dpx as a racing drive has a more hydro dynamic profile?
