Probabably a stretch, but if anyone has the measurement off the transom of a 16 OB (lip to keel base) it would be appreciated.

I have a sketch with that on it at the garage where I'm repowering a 16ob and am almost certain it is 20 3/8".

Mike I think you hit it, outboards came in 15", 20" and 25, 15 would seem to be too short for a 16. I would set it where you say then go up a hole at a time until you get the best performance without blowing the wheel out in turns.

Wouldn't a 15" Short Shaft would sit tight on the splashwell lip if the transom is 20" on the money?

Greg, I don't have the numbers in front of me but a 15" mid section would put the prop shaft somewhere around 3 or 4 inches below the keel.

A 20" transom will need a 20" engine, but to get the best perf out of it you will end up raising 2 maybe 3 bolt holes. If you go too high you will lose cooling and it will blow out in the turns. There is quite a lot to fooling around with prop shaft height, on the transom you can go just so much. To get more you need to get into brackets and jack plates, there are several outboard guys on the board a few will have some good input for you be patient.
