Just a few facts about the engine;
It had 42 cylinders of 4.25" X 3.625". It was to develop about 2400 HP @ 4290 RPM. What was really amazing is it was only 35" in diameter X 94" long.
Wright's heart wasn't in it, they had so many other projects going on.

I did some scanning tonight.
This is a VERY complicated engine. So start w/the crankshaft, rods and piston section and proceed from there.
Also understand there're three crankshafts in a row and power is not transmitted from one to another, or any crankshaft to the propellor reduction gear.
Oh yeah, it only has one over head camshaft per head.

I'm going to have to wait until tomorrow to check this out as I don't think the 3.5" screen on my iphone is going to provide quite the size needed to see this in detail.

Kinda reminds me of the gigantic ship engines they build these days-no real new tech for the day, just the current tech taken to it's extreme.

That is really cool. Thanks for posting it George.

Anyone who's build a motor can look at it and understand the fundamentals of how it works, but it's so massivly complicated it would be a nightmare to actually assemble and make run!

Can you imagine the parasitic losses of all those gear drives??
